

Guillermo Julio Guerra Sr., age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 1st. Born in Cuba in 1936, Guillermo lived a life devoted to faith, education, and family. He was a proud Catholic whose values guided him throughout his life.
Guillermo married the love of his life, Edith Reyes Guerra, and together they built a beautiful family. In 2025, Guillermo and Edith celebrated 55 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife, Edith, and their four children: Yolanda Guerra (Rachid Zahidi), Guillermo Guerra Jr., Carlos Guerra (Donna Guerra), and Edith Guerra Hicks (Dawson Hicks). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Julian Taylor, Adan Zahidi, Samira Zahidi, Juliana Hicks, Olivia Hicks, Melina Guerra, and Alicia Guerra.
A lifelong educator, Guillermo dedicated his career to shaping young minds in the Chicago Public School System. After his retirement, he continued to teach in the Tampa Bay area with Hillsborough County Public Schools and the Diocese of St. Petersburg, sharing his knowledge and passion for education with a new generation of students.
Guillermo’s interests reflected his vibrant spirit—he loved baseball, basketball, farming, and traveling. He especially cherished the years spent traveling in the motorhome with his family, including the annual summer trek from Chicago to Miami and back. Most of all, he treasured time spent with his family. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew him.
A private graveside service will be held. Details will be shared with family and friends.
