FARR, Helen Clemons, of Tampa, passed away on January 2, 2016. She was born on December 18, 1925, in Sheffield, Ala. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she cherished her many friends.
She was preceded into death by her loving husband of 67 years, Joseph W. Farr; her beloved granddaughter, Katie Jackson; her parents, Lillie McDonald Clemons and James Louis Clemons; brother, Louis Edward Clemons; and infant sister, Mary Lee Clemons.
She is survived by a son, Don Farr (Wanda) of Bradenton; daughters, Cheryl Farr (Lee Miller) of Sarasota and Debra Jackson (Tom) of Tampa; grandchildren, Jason Farr (Anna and son, Noah) of Jacksonville, Nicole Farr of Bradenton, Kelly de Flores (Jose) of San Jose Cabo, Mexico, Elizabeth Jackson, and Chris Jackson of Tampa; great-grandson Zachary Farr of Bradenton; great-granddaughter, Emilia de Flores; and great-grandson, Javier de Flores of San Jose Cabo, Mexico; brother, James Clemons (Pamelia) of Florence, Ala.; aunt, Ruby Green of Tuscumbia, Ala.; special niece, Norma Moses (Arnold) of Deer Park, Tex.; special cousin, Patricia Sprague (Rick) of Birmingham, Ala.; longtime Gal Friday, Barbara O'Steen (Leon) of Dover; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She met and married her husband when he was in the Army Air Corps and was stationed near her hometown during World War II. After his discharge, they lived in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee before finally settling in Temple Terrace in 1959, moving to Tampa Palms in 2005, cultivating many friends and fond memories in every location. Helen was an active member of the GFWC Temple Terrace Women's Club, and was recently awarded an honorary lifetime membership; a past member of the Temple Terrace Garden Club; the Temple Terrace Ladies Golf Association; and in the 1960s served as a Tampa General Hospital Pink Lady. She was a member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church in New Tampa. Perhaps her crowning service achievement was the annual Temple Terrace Women's Club Prayer Breakfast, which launched while she was president of the Temple Terrace Women's Club. She catered the event for a number of years until the attendance surged to more than 100 and was opened to the public. Helen loved flowers of all kinds and was a member of a small team that for years designed and furnished the altar arrangements for Temple Terrace Presbyterian Church. She was an exceptional cook, famously tweaking recipes to make them her own. Helen also thrived on gardening, entertaining, reading, shopping, and antiquing with family and friends. Helen adored traveling and cruising with Joe, and they saw much of the world, but her loved ones will forever remember her at home with a frosty glass of sweet tea in one hand and a welcoming smile parting her lips.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen's memory to the GFWC Temple Terrace Women's Club Endowment Fund, P.O. Box 16056, Temple Terrace, FL 33617; or the Shriners Children's Hospital , 12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33613; or the charity of your choice .
Memorial service plans are pending, and will be announced soon.
