I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Blakey and it was an honor. He invited me in his house and even sat down at his table and broke bread with his family. Had the pleasure of traveling to Georgia and meeting some of the other members of his family. I remember some of the stories he would tell me and he would have me laughing so hard . He was quite a funny man and he could get serious to. I have seen both sides of this man and I’m proud to known him and call him my friend. My condolences go out to the family. No doubt about it he was a good man. R.I.P MR Jim Blakey . I am very proud to know you. Manny!

My First Memory of Jim was with The Boy Scouts at Temple Heights Baptist Church and School. That was over Forty years ago. You couldn't help but Like Jim, He was down to Earth and very Knowledgeable . A hard worker and always had time to talk to you. Just Saying he was a Good Man isn't enough. He was My Friend ! He had a Big heart, Loved His Wife, Irene and of course his Son, Ray and Daughter, Michelle. I've spent the night in their home, learned to know and like Rutabegas (sp). Enjoyed camping at Silver Lake and Hog Island. You really had to know this Man to appreciate his Humor. He Once said to me, Tom, Do you know how one mountain calls its Son. Of Course I fell for it, He replied as only He could , "Hey Cliff ! "
My Fond Memories will last forever. One Day We will see Jim Again, Its promised in God's Holy Word. Look For us Jim , Will be there too , One Day!

I always called Mr.Blakey Pop just like I did my own Father because in a lot of ways he reminded me of spending time with my own father with his sense of humor and always wanting to laugh about something. I am going to miss his friendship because my father has been gone many years and we shared a friendship of almost the same level!! R.I.P. Pop, I will always remember you and you will always be a part of me!

Guess who's home from the rehab center. Yep, we brought papa home early this afternoon. He really worked hard to come back to us. It was a loooong 20+ days, but he's doing better. Now to see if me and mom can keep up with him. Very thankful...
