Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Thomas A. and Ann Moran Mahoney she moved to Tampa as a child. Her family founded TA Mahoney Company on Tampa Bay. She attended schools in Tampa and received the American Legion Woman’s Service Award for outstanding service, scholarship, leadership and fellowship. She graduated from Plant High School, before graduating from Gordon Keller School of Nursing. She had a distinguished nursing career which included positions at Alachua General Hospital, Gainesville, FL and Tampa General Hospital. She also worked in industry as an occupational health nurse and the Walk in Clinic of Brandon. She was one of the founders of the Brandon Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered there for 35 years.
She and her husband moved to Brandon in 1957. She was very involved in the community and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brandon (New Hope UMC). She was very active in her children’s schools and volunteered extensively. She served as the President of the Lions Auxiliary Club, President of the Junior Woman’s Club, President of the Woman’s Service League, all of Brandon, and served terms as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Brandon President’s Roundtable. One of her contributions to the community was the tireless number of hours she spend raising funds, which was instrumental in the air conditioning of Yates Elementary School. She volunteered at Brandon Nativity Catholic School, Jesuit High School and Brandon High School where she was President of the Band Parents Association. She was an avid tennis player and won numerous local championships.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram, and sister, Emeline Middaugh. She will be missed by her family: Patricia Stark, husband John of Brevard, North Carolina; Hiram Moody, Jr., wife Kim of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Robert Moody, husband Gene Linkoski of Brandon; and grandchild, Hiram Moody III, of Charlotte, North Carolina also, brothers Thomas and Robert and their wives Charlotte and Gayle, along with her nieces and nephews.
