

THORNTON, Ken, 82, of Dover, passed away unexpectedly August 10, 2011. As a young man he fought in the Korean War with the Army and earned numerous awards, including the Purple Heart. He was past Chief of Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department, past Master of the Brandon Masonic Lodge, current member of Brandon Shriner Club and Hopewell Baptist Church. He also supported many children’s foundations. He was preceded in death by his young daughter, Teresa Thornton and granddaughter Melissa Thornton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mirta; son Victor Thornton and wife Lori; daughter Lisa Buckner; grandchildren Matthew Thornton and twins Andrew and Elizabeth Buckner; future grandson-in-law, Zac Catrett; three brothers; four sisters; an extended family and many many close friends. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday August 15, 2011 at Stowers Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior.
