I am still accepting, every day, that Kevin is no longer living with us. Even so, he will always be with us, & he will always be found in life. I’ve never seen a person so in love with life like the way he was. His attention was present in each moment, admiring existence. This keen perception & awe to life’s details is where I can still find him in life: in the sun resting on the horizon, in the sea grass tickling the ocean’s surface, in the edges of the clouds twisting & threatening a force to not be reckoned with, in the wind rustling through branches, or bare feet pressed against the earth— he will continue to live. Kevin was a man who cared so deeply about existence, he gave his life to it. He was self driven & devoted to helping & healing others when they were in need. He cared for his community in lengths that others would not consider going. He was an exceptional neighbor. Between physically demanding favors, assistance with health & healing, or just being a good friend, Kevin would be there when he was needed— requested to or not. This devotion to the well-being of others extended to his professional career. Growing up, we used to look at drawings & letters Kevin received from children that he cared for. He always looked so happy watching us admire them. He understood love at its core & shared it endlessly through ways that truly improved people’s lives. Sometimes that love looked like a brute tone in the name of standing up for what was right. He wished for peace among men, for clean water, shelter, food, & healthcare for all. Kevin was a good man. He will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, patients & neighbors alike. I feel so fortunate to have been gifted a lifetime of memories with him. I am so grateful to have him as a parent, & I am so proud of the life that he lived. May his life here rest in peace, & I wish with all of my heart he is on to the next adventure & that it treats him with the kindness, beauty & love that he so rightly deserves.

Kevin was a great guy who was loved by many for his kindness and sincerity.  The many gatherings he hosted at his home were always enjoyable and everybody could count on delicious food and fun company.  My kids have amazing, custom skateboards handmade by their Uncle Kevin which will serve as a reminder of his love for them every time they go for a ride.  I’ll also always appreciate his willingness to provide guidance when our kids were sick.  Just another indication of the type of man he was….He will be missed. May he rest in peace!

Uncle Kevin always carried an endless amount of stories that never failed to make me smile. Mom tells me that he always wanted to fly; he went as far as to make a makeshift hanglider and glide down a giant hill. I can totally see it now. He was so adventurous. It’s amazing to see how many people Uncle Kevin knew and took care of as a doctor. Everyone loved him, and he loved everyone.
I really, really miss him. If I had only known that the last time I would’ve seen him would be in the remains of his home after Milton…
I never emphasized enough how much I loved him, and I’m so very sorry that I didn’t. I know he already knew it, but I regret our final goodbye to be so quick. You never know.
I know he’s somewhere, fulfilling his dream of flying. He knows how much we love him. May he rest in peace.

My Uncle Kevin was someone who cared more about others than himself. He built his whole career in medicine helping those who needed him. He was someone who always loved the outdoors. You could always find him out in the water, taking fishing trips with friend and family. The impact that he had on others will never be forgotten, and was a reminder of what a truly selfless person should be. I know he is now in a better place, and I hope he’s enjoying everything that he loved in life. I hope he’s out on the water, catching fish and still building skateboards out of his garage. Rest in Peace Uncle Kevin, we all love and miss you very much.

I was very saddened to hear of Dr. Hughes' passing. Over the 4 years I was his patient, he was such a great listener, educator, and genuinely cared about my issues. He made such a positive difference in my life, and I will always remember him fondly.

I feel like I’ve been kicked in the gut. I was on the Internet, trying to find contact information for Kevin when I stumbled upon this sorrowful news. I just cannot believe it.
I had the honor of working with Kevin at the after hours pediatrics in Brandon. I interviewed with him over the phone for that job and liked him right away. He adamantly and consistently advocated for his patients, staff, family, and friends. we laughed a lot when we were together, and I remember the day he took me out on his boat under the pretense that we were going to talk about some patient issues! It was really just an opportunity to be on the water,in the sun drinking beers with a good friend for the afternoon. I will never forget that.
My heart felt sympathy goes out to Jen, his family and their children. May time bring you peace, and he’ll always be with you. The world will be a little more dull now, but the fish in Tampa Bay won’t have so much to worry about !

I have been fortunate to have known Kevin through different stages of life! We met in med school took classes together and he shared my love of the outdoors! This is a photo on charlie bunion in great smokies, it was an epic trip with many wonderful memories! After we graduated we loss touch for a few years but met again in the professional world. He worked at after hours clinic and I knew my patients would be well taken care of, this was a wonderful reassurance! He was loved by many and an encouraging soul! I am sad he left so soon but grateful for his friendship over the years ! Till we meet again! Prayers for jennifer and all of the family as they travel this world without him!

I’m going to miss Kevin so much, he will forever be remembered in my heart and soul. He is the big brother I never had. We shared many adventures together, catching fish and not catching fish, it was always the best of times no matter what. The memories I have of Kevin will forever live on. Kevin, rest in peace brother, we will meet again in the next life.

Kevin is such a radiant soul. I will always remember him as hilarious, kind, and welcoming. He welcomed so many friends of his children into his home, and onto adventures on his boat. His energy will continue to shine brightly here through each of you. I don’t know of any words that can ease the pain of grief, but know so many are thinking of you all during this time and sending our love. I believe you all will meet again one day in eternity.

As patients of Dr. Hughes, I hope this doesn't offend anyone that I'm leaving this message, as I've battled with myself on if I should leave our condolences or not as we're not as close as others were. My youngest daughter (9yrs) fell in love with Dr. Hughes from the moment he walked in her exam room. She instantly caught a glimpse of his skateboard on his stethoscope and called him the "Cool Doctor" and that lit up his face! He took care of her as if she was his own daughter and upon check out, I booked her next appointment as well as her sister's with him. My oldest (12yrs) instantly grew attached to him at her appointment as well. And for two young girls to be comfortable with a gentleman doctor, that says so much! He was a very serious man but he also knew exactly how to make his patients feel comfortable, even during unfortunately conversations. We were only granted I believe 1 1/1-2 years with him but my kids never looked forward to going to the doctor before he came into our lives! We were absolutely gutted and cried when we got the email from the facility. There will never be another "Cool Doctor" like Dr. Hughes. To Dr. Hughes' wife and family, my heart is with you during this tragic time. Lean on one another and reminisce about the good times you once shared with this sensational man.

What a great big brother Kevin was. 🥰 Not many know this, but Kevin became a doctor because his little sister (me) was diagnosed with cancer at only 2 months old. He wrote a school paper when he was 8, saying he was going to find a cure for this awful disease. Sadly, that very same disease he wanted to find a cure for, took his beautiful life. My big brother “Kev”, leaves behind countless memories. He had a very loving and generous soul. 

So, “Kev”, I already miss the heck out of you, but your memories will always live on. Your very last words to me were, “See ya”, and even though they broke my heart, I look forward to that day when we’re together again. 💞

So sorry to hear about Kevin‘s passing. We did a lot of studying together in medical school. He was always so kind and funny! We will pray for him and his family.

Super sad to hear of Kevin’s passing.  He was a good, kind soul.  As a colleague in medical school, he was a great support during those arduous years in our early training.  He will be missed.

We were fortunate to have Kevin and Jen as our friends.  We always looked forward to our weekly "happy hour" with them, which was definitely the best part of our week.  Kevin was a free spirit who would make your day brighter and better.  Both of us, along with the many people who loved Kevin, will really, really miss him.

My heart broke when we received the news of Kevin’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer, his kids and family. I’m so thankful that the hole in my heart is now filled with all the memories I have of our time working together and times spent together as friends. I still remember his first day visiting the hospital in Martin, TN. He looked like a misplaced beach bum. Having the chance to watch him grow as a pediatrician and also an ER doctor was great. The care and compassion he showed to everyone just proved that he had chosen the right profession. He loved life and truly lived it to its fullest. Thank you Kevin for all the wonderful moments and we will see you on the other side. Love you our friend that became family.

Even though I did not have the privilege of knowing Dr. Kevin Hughes personally, I had the opportunity of getting to know about him through his daughter Maissie.
I volunteer at HEP for Maissie in the garde.  She always has a cherished memory to share with us, as well as, funny stories of something that happened, or at family get togethers. 
I can see, by  reading some of the comments,  where Maissie’s wonderful personality is revealed as a result of her relationship with her father.
May his memory be eternal.

Kevin was a great neighbor, he lived his life to the fullest and was always willing to help anyone.  
A fond memory was when he and Jennifer came to my Brothers farm to pick vegetables with us. It was a fun morning!
We will miss Kevin and are thankful he was our friend and neighbor.

Almost a year ago,  I met Maissie’s Dad. He came out to support Maissie and Uptown Funk Market.  He ventured over to our HEP Mobile Market and bragged about his darling girl and literally bought all our produce.  He was even more excited about our orange canvas bags!!  After chatting with him, I instantly knew why Maissie was such an exceptional young woman. Rest in peace Kevin. Strength for your entire family. ❤️

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hughes almost 25 years ago and worked with him for about 20 years.  While I am saddened by news, I am also thankful for the wonderful memories to hold onto. I would like to offer my condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

My family and I are deeply saddened to hear of Kevin's passing.   We have been lucky to have had Kevin as a neighbor for 20 years.   Not only was he a wonderful neighbor, but also a wonderful doctor to my kids as well.  He was a youthful, free spirit that enjoyed life to its fullest, and I admired him for that.  He would also help anyone in need.  God Bless you, Kevin.  Rest in peace.  The neighborhood will not be the same without you, and you will be terribly missed. My uncle Kevin was very thoughtful and caring to me and my brothers. He was a great man, lived an adventurous life, and loved making skateboards for my brothers and I. He cared for and loved so many people.  I’ll forever miss him and hope he’s in a better place now.

I am totally loss of words. Dr Hughes  and  I worked together for almost 20 years. He was so special to me, like a big brother. He cared for all 3 of my children at some point.  We shared a lot of good times, good food and lots of late hours working at AHP. I will always remember his kindness, his love for his patients and  staffs. So sorry for our loss.  He was a great physician who treated my kids on multiple occasions with care and kindness. Prayers to his loved ones.

I’m sorry to hear of his passing and hope he is resting in eternal peace.  He was a great man who helped many including my family as we took our sick children to him and he always helped in many ways.

I am sad to hear of Dr. Hughes passing. He has tended to my children several times at After Hours Pediatrics. What an incredible doctor !  Kind, compassionate, patient and knowledgeable! I can only imagine the loss his family is feeling!  I will pray for their peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Our family will always be grateful for Kevin and Jennifer Hughes because they befriended our parents, Russ and Cookie Clement, who for many years lived a few doors away in Apollo Beach.  With much of our family living in Maryland, we took considerable comfort in knowing that "Dr. Kevin" and Jennifer were just around the corner.   On various occasions they stepped in to assist Russ and Cookie when they needed a helping hand.  As the years rolled by, our family visits to Apollo Beach never seemed complete if we did not enjoy a "happy hour" or an impromptu meal with  Dr. Kevin and Jennifer.  Their compassionate and caring ways always came shining through, including their visit last year with Russ and Cookie after they moved to an assisted living home in Maryland.

Sorry for your loss he was a great doctor took the best care of my diabetic son when we would have to go there. My children where so blessed to have had him as there urgent care doctor.

My deepest condolences for the family.  Dr. Hughes treated my daughters many times at the after hours pediatric clinic and was always caring, knowledgeable and made my girls feel so much better. He will truly be missed by so many of the lives that he touched. God’s peace and comfort for all his family and friends.

I worked with Kevin in the 90s while he was a resident at TGH. Then fast forward 10 yrs later, I was fortunate to have him care for my own child one night when I was a nervous scared mom. Kevin was always a caring provider who touched the lives of many families. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Kevin Hughes for 17 years at After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care. We were like a work family.  We would work long extended hours, most weekends and holidays. Dr. Hughes was always genuinely so caring. He was always committed to his patients. Alike he cared for the staff as well, making it a great work environment. If he worked on Thanksgiving he would cook a turkey and bring it to work. Dr. Hughes loved the lasagna I would bring in for the staff. I only wished I had prepared it one last time for him. He will definitely be missed. I am glad I got to know him then to not have known him at all.  My condolences to his entire family. May he RIP.
