Larry Brian Garrett, Sr. was born in Tampa, Florida on August 19, 1940. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eurshel Garrett and Beatrice Garrett. He is survived by all four of his siblings, Betty Adamo, Glen Garrett, Ted Garrett and Mary Beth Ekiss.
He is also preceded in death by his “Mrs. Honey” of 58 years, Patricia Jean Garrett.
Larry is survived by the four children he and Pat raised, Larry Garrett, Jr. (wife, Ava), Tammy Woodall (husband, Mark), and Rick Garrett (wife, Traci).
In addition to his siblings and children, he is survived by eight grandchildren, Greg Garrett, Amy Woodall, Adam Woodall, Lindsey Hauser, Josh Hauser, Haley Garrett, Hannah Garrett, Hope Garrett AND three great-grandchildren, Emma Wetherington, Lilli Garrett and Chase Garrett.
Larry’s jobs included being a machinist at Tampa Dry Dock and ship repair. He helped build the submarine cars used by Disney’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and he volunteered to drive the large flatbed trailer to deliver them from downtown Tampa to Orlando.
He also worked alongside his dad at Dixie Lily delivering dry goods to food stores until he had enough experience to have his own route where he then worked alongside his son Larry Jr. as his helper.
Larry took an interest in autobody mechanics and painting cars. He started by repairing cars and painting them in his own garage at home and eventually he became an autobody mechanic at Reeve’s Import Motorcars in Tampa. From there, he became an automobile insurance appraiser and later started New Life Appraisal Service where he continued his appraisal work until retirement.
When he retired, Larry had a long list of honey-do’s waiting for him to complete while Pat continued to drive a school bus. This earned him the nickname “Cinderfella” by Pat. He was also her “Mr. Honey.”
We all know Larry continued working after retirement…..that is, working hard to catch as many fish as he could and of course telling all of the stories that came along with that job.
Larry loved kids and especially the opportunity to teach or take his kids, grandkids and neighborhood kids fishing every chance he could.
Flowers are welcomed and charitable contributions in his memory can be made to C.A.S.T. for Kids – an organization that enhances the lives of special needs children through fishing.
