Layne was born on May 11, 1957 and grew up in the community of Rescue in Isle of Wight County, VA. After high school he worked in the music business. He was a talented musician, singer/songwriter, and band leader. He formed several bands and entertained hundreds up and down the east coast for many years. Music brought him joy, and he wanted to share that joy with anyone willing to listen.
At age 50, Layne opened American Family RV, a successful RV dealership with locations in Chesapeake and Salem, VA. He retired in 2022 and moved to Tampa where he enjoyed fishing and working on music.
Layne is survived by his fiancé, Shannon; son and granddaughter; two brothers, Gary and Scott; former wife and business partner, Carol; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, GC and Seymour; brother, Lawrence.
A celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kinder Children’s Cancer Center run by UT MD Anderson and Texas Children’s Hospital.
