

After the death of her mother, Maisie at the age of 2 years old, was sent to live with her aunt Etheline (Kitty) Blake in Port Antonio, Portland where she had a great childhood. Maisie had a sister Elsie Cynthia Rose (née Williams) and a brother Vincent Williams who both preceded her in death. Maisie attended Titchfield High School and then Victoria Jubilee Hospital Nursing School where she became a midwife. She worked as a midwife for 17 years in Jamaica.
While working as a midwife, she met and later married Headmaster Opie Fitzmore Clunie in 1954. The union produced three children, Karen “Yvette” Mae Williams (née Clunie), Brian Washington Delano Clunie spouse Andrea Brathwaite and Opie (Junior) Fitzwhylie Clunie spouse Maxine Morrison.
Maisie migrated to the United States in June of 1969. She was employed by New York Hospital for 25 years. While living in New York, she received an Associate’s Degree from the Borough of Manhattan Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Health from City College of New York. She was a member of the Brooklyn Tabernacle for 23 Years where she enjoyed attending worship services and prayer meetings. She moved to Riverview, Florida in August 2003 where she became a member of the Tampa Bay Tabernacle until her passing. Maisie was a faithful woman of God and a mighty prayer-warrior who read her bible and prayed multiple times daily for her church family, her family and others. She never hesitated when called upon to pray for anyone who needed prayers, encouragement or to lend a hand where needed.
Maisie who was a breast cancer survivor had an avid interest in natural products and alternative medicine. She believed in using these methods to treat any ailments that she had in addition to using any prescribed medications.
Maisie was an avid sports fan who played the sport of netball in high school. She enjoyed watching sports such as baseball, golf, football, the Olympics, and wrestling on television. She also attended baseball games in Tampa and the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Maisie made a point to attend the graduation of her children and grandchildren, whether from high school, college or graduate school. Education was very important to her. She believed that in order to improve your status in life, you should educate yourself. This is evidenced by one doctoral degree, seven master’s degree and six bachelor’s degree among her children and grandchildren.
Maisie is survived by her three children, ten grand-children (Andre King spouse Alma Palacio, Monifa Clunie, Christopher Clunie spouse Lauren McGee, Ajani Clunie, Jonathan Clunie spouse Rebekah Pavese, Ferdinand Wedemier, Jr, Aziza Clunie, Tiffany Clunie spouse Robert Hunter, Aliya Clunie, and Jahbulani Clunie), eight great-grand-children, (Talia Coleman, Amiya King, Alex Clunie, Farron Wedemier, Maisie Clunie, Kimberly Clunie, Sienna Clunie and Foxe Wedemier), nieces (Marcia Duplessis, and Michelle Rose), nephews (Kevin and Vasa Rose), and many extended family members and friends.
Maisie was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by family and friends and all who came in contact with her.
A visitation for Maisie will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. A funeral service will occur Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. A reception will occur Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 2323 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
