

Maria is survived by her children Nelson Candelario and Mary Lynn Torres-Cerezo, her siblings Rosa L. Diaz, Amado Diaz and Alba Martinez. She is also survived by her grandchildren Nicole, Arielle, Alysa, Dano, Aureana and Tyler.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carlos Torres, her brothers Mario Diaz, Wilson Rodriguez and Frank Rodriguez, her sisters Constancia Diaz and Aurea Diaz Velez, and her granddaughter Sierra Kesler.
Maria was born on May 2, 1938, in Anasco, Puerto Rico to Emilia Rodriguez Sanchez and Juan Diaz Valentin. She married Carlos Torres in 1963. Maria worked as a Laundress for Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood, NY. Maria and Carlos raised their children in their home on Wicks Road in Brentwood. The children remember her as hardworking, loving, attentive and generous.
Maria loved crocheting and would make beautiful bedspreads, decorative items and Christmas decorations among many other items. She loved making personalized gifts of her handmade crocheting to her family and friends. Maria also loved cows they were her favorite animal. Maria and Carlos always opened their home to any family member in need. She was passionate about those she loved and always wanted to be there for them in any way she could.
A visitation will be held at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, located at 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511, on October 19, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location at 3:00 pm. Pastor Frederic Gray will officiate the ceremony. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate Maria’s life.
