Gone, But Never To Be Forgotten
Oswald “Osie” James, age 81, of Tampa, Fl, peacefully passed away on September 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and a fierce passion for life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet, and is survived by his children, Stenwin Joseph (Guendalina), Oswald “OJ” Jr. (Rachel), Morgan (Stacey), Maura; and his grandchildren.
Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, Osie was the youngest of eight children. Growing up, his vibrant energy was felt by everyone around him. He was a gifted athlete who spent his youth playing soccer and cricket by the canal. On the cricket pitch, he was an excellent bowler, but his true mastery was on the soccer field. His incredible talent almost led him to a professional soccer career, sparking a lifelong competitive drive. Whether he was playing a high-stakes card game with friends or cheering at the horse races, Osie always played to win—and in life, he did.
Beneath his competitive exterior beat a deeply compassionate heart. Osie found meaning in helping others, spending time as a paramedic caring for those in need and later working within the school system, where he brought his caring nature and friendly presence to students and staff. Above all else, Osie’s greatest joy and deepest love belonged to his children. His love for them was deep and unwavering. He loved them fiercely, was immensely proud of them, and carried a special place for each of them in his heart. He was a profoundly hardworking, God-fearing man who cared deeply for those around him.
True to his legendary nickname, “Funnyman,” Osie had a rare gift for putting a smile on every face he encountered. His humor was infectious, and his joy was a blessing to all who knew him.
Though he is gone, he will never be forgotten; though he is lost, he will always be loved. In this time of sorrow, his family asks that you do not burden your hearts with grief. Instead, believe that Osie is looking down on all of us, smiling, and more alive and happy than ever before, resting in the arms of the Lord.
May God always keep him in His eternal peace.
