Richard Ortiz, 81, of Valrico, Florida, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughter on May 26, 2025, at 4:04 PM EST after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) A Typical, and Dementia.
Richard was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, friend, and a man of deep Christian faith. Born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in New York, he dedicated his life to serving and protecting the great city he called home until his retirement in August 1994.
In retirement, Richard enjoyed his life in Florida and found joy in strength training—particularly deadlifting—teaching biblical studies, and sharing his knowledge of firearm safety.
He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Ortiz, mother Eloisa Ortiz, brother Gilbert Ortiz, and many other cherished loved ones. We take comfort in knowing they are reunited in heaven, watching over those still here.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Maria Garcia, his devoted daughter Damaris Ortiz, and many family and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He fought the good fight and finished the race. Though he may be absent from the body, we find peace knowing he is present with the Lord.
May Richard Ortiz rest in eternal peace and continue to watch over all those he loved.
