WEBSTER, Robert J, a member of the Greatest Generation, died on September 5, 2013 at age 89. He had been a resident of Brandon/Riverview since 1967. Born in Seattle, he lived in Canada and attended the University of British Colombia. At age 19, he left to enlist in the US Army Air Corp. Bob spent the next 3 ½ years flying the Himalayan mountains as a flight radio operator, where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Clusters and other medals. During the Korean War, he was a radio operator in the Merchant Marines. He then worked for General Motors for 34 ½ years, US Airways for 9 years, and Publix for 5 years.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Bonnie Webster of 38 years. He is also survived by his first wife of 27 years, Yvonne Bobbermein and his sister Lois Clark. He leaves behind his children Donna, Diane and Rob Webster (Verena), Christopher Smith (Mary) and Cynthia Thomas. He has 6 grandchildren, Edward and William “BJ” (deceased) Colbert, Ryan (Tasha) Snyder, Esther, Gabriel, and Brayden Smith, as well as, 4 great grandchildren; Dominick, Cole, Troy, and Kaiya Snyder. His lifetime passion for adventure took him to over 100 countries.
Visitation with family will be at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon Wednesday September 18, 2013 from 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St Stephen Catholic Church, Valrico on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
