Roger was born on April 24th, 1954, in Clarksburg, West Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Warner Lee Golden. Years later, in Knoxville, Tennessee, he would stop to help a young woman named Judy whose car was broken down on the side of the road. That chance meeting led to a 42 year marriage as Roger recognized the "stranger" was truly his soulmate.
Before his retirement in 2019, Roger was a highly recruited mechanical engineer. His expertise in the design of power plants took him across the United States as well as overseas. Although Roger was highly dedicated to his work, he was first and foremost a family man. For many years, he was a familiar face at BAYSL (Bay Area Youth Soccer League) where he coached his son's soccer teams. He also brought them to a USA World Cup game in 1994. In addition, the men of the family all enjoyed frequent golf outings with good-natured competition among the boys. Golden family vacations were filled with cherished memories. Roger and Judy made a beautiful life together in the Tampa area.
Roger also served as an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Seffner where his passion for ministry included donating his time to Meals on Wheels and Bikes for Kids for Jesus's Birthday Party. At home he enjoyed photography, the stock market and daily walks with Judy and their dog, Boomer. An avid sports fan, he cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Rays. Roger, with his charm and generosity, made a wonderful life for his wife, children and grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his wife of 42 years, Judy; his three sons, Todd, Ben and Luke; daughters-in-law, Diana and Thara; and grandsons Jack, Everett and Baker.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Presbyterian Church of Seffner 1906 South Lenna Avenue, Seffner, Florida 33584.
