

CHAVEZ, Rudolph "Rudy," 82, passed away February 21, 2011, surround-ed by his children, grand-children, brother and numerous family members. Rudy was a lifelong resident of Tampa. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The youngest of five children, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Josephine; his parents, Miguel and Clementina; sister, Rosie; and brothers, Henry and James. Survivors include his children, John Cerra of Tampa, Cindy Chavez of Tampa and Chris Chavez of Palm Bay, Fla.; grandchildren, Kristen and Michael Chavez; and brother, George Chavez (Ruth) of Dover, Fla. He was a firearms instructor in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After the service, he worked as a shop service supervisor for Sears and retired after 35 years of service. He had a deep passion for fishing, boating and camping. He was an avid do-it-yourselfer, and built his first house, which his family called home for more than 20 years. Many of his passions, skills and qualities were passed down and enjoyed by his children and grandchildren. His devotion to Josephine was lifelong and inspiring. As a father, he was ever present and supportive. His grand-children loved and admired their Pop-Pop. Visitation with family and friends will take place 12-1 p.m. Friday, February 25, at Hillsborough Memorial, Brandon, Fla. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. Arrangements under the direction of Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, Brandon, FL.
