Sophie M. Dziewguc Nocek

She was born January 12, 1917 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Adela and Alexander Dziewguc. She lived in Salem, Massachusetts most of her life. She was an active homemaker most of her life and was loved by all the children in her neighborhood in North Salem. In earlier years, She attended St. John the Baptist Church and her children attended parochial school. She was active in the St. John the Baptist PTA. The family later moved to North Salem and she attended St. Thomas Catholic Church. Her husband, the late Stanislaus Nocek was in the Navy during World War II and worked for GE his entire life. She moved to Florida seven years ago. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, Brandon, Florida. Her interests included family, reading, crafts and especially crocheting. The nursing homes in Brandon called her the “blanket lady” because of all the crocheted lap robes she donated through St. Francis Guild of Nativity Women’s Guild.

She was predeceased by her sister Helen Maskiewicz of Chelsea, Massachusetts and her brother Val Dayton of Dunnellon, Florida.

Sophie is survived by her daughter Sally Nocek Stanley; her son Michael Nocek and his wife Janet Pariseau Nocek; her grandchildren Susan, David, Donald and Daniel Stanley; her great grandchildren Shelicia Stanley, Taylor Stanley, Matthew Stanley, Kristina Parsons and spouse of Daniel, Kristie Stanley; niece Joanne Letsche of So. Weymouth, Massachusetts; and her sister-in-law Helen Dayton of Dunnellon, Florida.

There will be a visitation held Monday, August 15, from 11-12 noon at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at Nativity Catholic Church in Brandon, Monday, August 15, at 1:00 PM. There will be a graveside ceremony held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in North Salem. The date and time to be announced in Salem News. She was very much loved and will be missed by all.
