Susan Kay Leverett, 76, of Valrico, FL, passed away on August 31, 2021, after experiencing severe complications during her battle with Stage IV Lung Cancer. She has now been welcomed home by our Lord Jesus Christ. Susan was fierce in her faith and knew what awaited her at the end of this journey we call Life.
Susan Leverett was born on May 23, 1945, to Clayton Joiner and Iona Strunk Joiner at Perry Memorial in Princeton, Illinois. The youngest of 13 children. She graduated from Tiskilwa High School in 1963. A few years after graduating high school, in 1968, Susan met the love of her life Roy Leverett(d.2015) and they wed in 1969 in Princeton, Illinois, going on to have 2 children, Angela Leverett Schwetzke (b.1969-d.2019) and Christopher Sean Leverett (b.1974).
Susan and Roy relocated from Chicago, IL to Valrico, Florida permanently in 1977. When Susan had Angela and Christopher, she decided to dedicate her life to being a loving and caring mother. Susan excelled at supporting members of her family and friends with lots of love, advice and a good meal! But something she loved more than that was her grandchildren: Jami Shelley, Alexander Just, Haley Leverett, Riley Leverett, Madeleine Gribnitz, and Bianca Ferry. Later in life she held various administrative positions but her number one joy in life was being a grandmother and spending time with her family.
Susan was a passionate fan of the Chicago Bears and loved having all her family over for the football games every Sunday with lots of food, laughter and love. Before her husband’s passing she enjoyed going on motorcycle rides and taking many cruises with her beloved Roy. In the years after Roy’s passing when not spending time with her family, Susan could be found at many church functions where she was a faithful and devoted member of Living Savior Lutheran Church located in her hometown of Valrico.
Susan was predeceased by her parents, Clayton Joiner and Iona Strunk Joiner. Brothers Robert Joiner, Hobart Joiner, William Joiner, Max Joiner and sisters Maxine Ringenberg, Nadine Sapp, Barbara Kasbeer, Marietta May Joiner, and Cynthia Ann Joiner. One daughter, Angela Leverett Schwetzke.
She is survived by her son Christopher Leverett (Sarah Leverett). Grandchildren: Jami Shelley (Emma Shelley), Alexander Just, Haley Leverett, Riley Leverett, Madeleine Gribnitz (Dylan Gribnitz), and Bianca Ferry. Brothers: Thomas Joiner, Emil Theodore (Ted) Joiner, Jerry Joiner, Joseph Joiner, and her sister Charlotte Morris Joiner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Southeastern Guide Dog Inc(www.guidedogs.org/make-a-donation/). There will be a private funeral service for immediate family only due to COVID-19 and a Celebration of Life that will be held at Susan’s house. Family and friends were everything to Susan and having the Celebration of Life at her home is only fitting to have all the people she loved in one place.
