Thelma Letha Rains

Thelma Letha Rains, age 83, of Brandon, Florida passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 surrounded by her family. Thelma was born August 1, 1938 in Barbourville, Kentucky to the late Daniel and Mary Edith (Née Manning). Jack and Thelma Rains married in 1955 and relocated to Brandon, FL in 1978.

Thelma was a talented hairdresser who worked in the Brandon area for over 40 years. She was gifted artistically which is shown through the many pieces of art she hand created and the beautiful cards she has given over the years. Thelma had a gentle and kind spirit, she enjoyed raising monarch butterflies in her home and releasing them to fly freely. She was diligent in caring for her family and close friends. Thelma, a devout Christian and active member of First Baptist Church of Brandon, shared the love of God in every aspect of her life. Her passions included teaching children’s Sunday School at church, card making, and collecting Dept. 56 houses.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Jack Rains and her parents. Thelma is survived by her children, Sheresa (Jim) Kelley, Marcia (Dr. Florencio Nadal) Rains-Nadal, Scott Rains; grandchildren, Scott (Jennifer) Rains Jr., Mike Rains, Chris Rains, Evan Kelley, Courtney Safko, Katarina Safko; five great grandchildren; companion, Curtis Bowling; dear friends in her Grace life group class; as well as many extended family members and friends.

Family members will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday, February 3, at Stowers Funeral Home, 401 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511. A funeral service will occur at 11am Friday, February 4, at First Baptist Church of Brandon, 216 N Parsons Ave, Brandon, FL 33510. A graveside service will occur at 3pm Friday, February 4, at Hillsborough Memorial Gardens, 2323 West Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
