Tom was my mom's cousin... I never met him, but as Mom became ill and then died, we struck up a long-distance correspondence... he told me tales of times he had spent with my parents. I know my mom (an only child) remembered him fondly from their childhood.  How nice of this man, who didn't know me at all, to take the time to share stories of times he spent with my (now deceased) parents.  Not many people will do that these days.  I'm sure he'll be much missed, and my condolences are with his family and friends.

Tom Wilson was a quiet Christian. He never needed to shout what being saved was all about. 'He who knows need not shout.'
One only needed to look at this pillar of a man aged but focused upon service to his God, his Savior, & his people.
From the moment I met Tom Wilson, I knew he was cut from a stronger fabric. His eyes shown with inner peace, & his strong hand was warm from welcoming many a life form into his life.
In the years I have grown to known him, I recognized that his God & his Savior were the center of his universe, but - here on earth - the Lady Mary Margaret was his wife & his life far beyond that which any grave can steal.
He always gave her all the credit for things they had achieved & the path toward Glory they walked upon together.
At our first meeting, I was burdened with deep pain because my great friend had moved away & I was - once again - without a confident.
As I worked on his PC, I pontificated about how wrong it was & even though I understood - on the logical level - that my friend had made the right decision for him (after all, he & his loving wife moved closer to their kids), I was left with pain.
It's not the longest sermon, it's the sincerest message that one in pain needs to hear.
Most people, hearing that I was hurting would have responded, "I understand," which is a lie.
I know it's a lie. They know it's a lie. But, it's what one is expected to say.
A Christian, left without words, might suggest, 'Let's pray'. And that, in time, might lead to the rightful ritual to find an easing of the pain.
But Tom did neither of those, expected things.
He softly touched & held my shoulder & in that still, small voice I have come to associate with Tom, he said: 'Jesus loves you'.
No other words needed to be spoken.
We need to hear the words we need to hear when we are ready to hear them. They only come from a friend who hears beyond the words & sees beyond the images we display for others.
I doubt Tom ever told anyone about that episode because he said he would not do so.
That is the kind of man Tom Wilson has always been. His word was his bond & beyond the reckoning of mortals, he had a faith that carried him through all kinds of trials & rose higher than before the challenges.
Tom Wilson is the kind of man one can call friend & know that friendship will never end. Death cannot remove that which is unremovable.
Tom Wilson, quiet Christian, is my friend.

The prayer below was found in the billfold of my friend, Tom Wilson, and was read at his funeral by his son, Jack. I don't  know if Tom wrote it, but I do know it was his sincere prayer.
 
â€œOur Heavenly Father forgive us for the pretentiousness from which we have built empty ideals. Forgive us for the apathy which has kept us from moving the dream closer to the deed. Do not leave us alone, but give us patience to outgrow our failure and the humility to outgrow our achievements, that we may serve you and our fellow man.â€

God be with you and your family at this time, I always loved seeing your Mom and Dad at our tournaments- He always had a calming effect.

I never got to meet your Dad, Jack, but I know he had fought the good fight for so long.  To you and Mary, Chris, and Anthony, I wish the comfort of knowing that he is at peace.  My thoughts are with you.
