

NEWNAM, Wilma Whaley, 92, of Brandon, died on January 3, 2014 under Hospice care. She was born in Sparks, GA, the daughter of the late Emmett and Jane Sumner Whaley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George Edgar Newnam, son George W. Newnam, daughter Joyce Newnam and 7 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Joanna Kellogg (Michael) of Brandon, FL, daughter Jane Hampton (Michael), grandson Todd of Hampstead, NC, and grandson Brian (Dana) of Wilmington, NC. Wilma and George moved to Brandon in 1990, from Ridgeway, VA where they had lived 35 years. In 1977, Wilma was named Deaf Mother of the Year by the Virginia Association of the Deaf. In Florida, she was a member of the Tampa Baptist Deaf Church now known as Grace Bible Deaf Church, as well as a member of the Tampa Bay Area Deaf Senior Citizens, West Central Florida Association of the Deaf, Polk Golden Club of the Deaf and Zephyrhills Senior Citizens Association of the Deaf. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m., with funeral service on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. to be officiated by Pastor Ronaldo Feliciano; both at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home, 2323 W. Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL.
