On Saturday April 10th, 2021 Betty Helen Hurley passed away at the age of 86. Loving mother to Marie (Dane), Dennis (Cathy), Dan (Nancy), Greg and Brenda (Garry). Devoted grandmother to Brent, Michael (Brittany), Lexie, Cole (Meg), Brianne (Brandon), Christopher (Taylor), Tara, Chelsea, Tori, Katie, Natalie, as well as GG to great grandson Henry. Caring big sister to Don (Darlene) Willson. Predeceased by her dear husband Louis (2006), and siblings Bill, Kenny, Doris and Shirley. Deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family.
To say there’s a hole in our family doesn’t say enough. This beautiful lady was the guiding light, an incredible role model, #1 cheerleader for any of our endeavors and truly invested and interested in all aspects of our lives. She was never judgmental, always believing in us, picking us up when we stumbled. We thank you and will miss you always.
It wasn’t just family that reaped the rewards of her kindness. She volunteered for over 20 years right up until the recent pandemic shutdowns with numerous organizations including Heart and Stroke, Red Cross, CWL and St. Mary’s Parish as well at Brierwood. She was very proud to still be in Guiding after over 75 years. She didn’t do this for accolades, that was just who she was, a genuinely good human who treated everyone as she would like to be treated.
She was an avid bowler with the Rubber League since 1983 and St. Mary’s Church League for years.
Her biggest wish when her health started to fail this January was to stay at home as long as possible. Our family was very glad to work together to make this happen. Between in person visits or Zoom calls, we saw her as much as we could and tried to keep her spirits up. On Saturday, we safely gathered in her yard, and on Zoom, for a Tea Party – “NO BOYS ALLOWED”. After greeting her subjects and watching the festivities, she needed a rest and went inside. While listening to the cackle of “her girls”, she passed away peacefully in her own home.
We want to thank the LIHN, Stedman Community Outreach Program, and our family friend Ellie Woodhouse for helping us care for Mom at home.
Cremation has taken place and a visitation and mass will be planned at a later date, when restrictions are loosened, to properly celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Stedman Community Hospice or St. Joseph’s Lifecare would be appreciated.
