It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brent aka BFlix, on Monday, May 20, 2019 peacefully at home with his parents by his side, after a lifelong battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Beloved son of Jay and Barb Flicks (nee White), brother of Jason and uncle to Gracen. Grandson of the late Herbert and Joan White and Albert and the late Peggy Flicks. He will be sadly missed by many other family and friends (you know who you are). Brent had a love for creating and writing music and was an award winning recording artist. He also had a love for all things sports. Special thank you and love to Brent’s many caregivers over the years.

The family will receive friends at “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”, 96 West. St., on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and Friday, May 24, 2019 from 1-2pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at 2pm. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Waterford. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Muscular Dystrophy Association or the March of Dimes would be appreciated by the family. Memories and condolences may be shared online at

Brent and I would talk for hours on Facebook, and for a few years a day didn’t go by where we didn’t communicate. We talked about everything from work, family, music and even our fears and insecurities. It was this dialogue which helped me become the man I am today.

At our wedding in June of 2017, Brent travelled hours to come make a speech. Recited from memory, Brent flawlessly executed his speech with such kind words that I began to think he was talking about someone other than me. It’s this type of energy that Brent brought to the world which helped me gain confidence in myself.

I can only imagine that Brent is in heaven hitting up 2Pac and Biggie for a feature, or perhaps even XXXTentacion or Lil Peep since he was always up to date with current music. One thing for sure is that he isn’t stopping the hustle because he never did.

I may have lost a friend but I’ve gained an angel. You will always be there with me Brent, every step of the way.

RIP Brother <3

Jay, Barb & Jason;
We are so sorry to hear that Brent has passed. He was a wonderful young boy who grew into a wonderful young man. We remember many fun weekends together as the College Crew made some great memories with our families. Our visits to your Cottage were filled with Brent enlightening us with his amazing knowledge of his sports stats, seeing his passion for his music and many laughs. Our family was very excited to buy and listen to Brents CD when he made it. It was heartwarming to listen to his unique voice and his talent.
Please know that our thoughts and hugs are with you all during this difficult time.
You will be missed B-Flix.

My heart breaks knowing how sad you must be to have to say goodbye to Brent. Brent was a one of a kind person and I will cherish every memory I have of him. Oh, the things he had me do! Bologna faces, March madness, foot massages, poker games, waiting room antics, PlayStation, shopping, train rides! The list is endless. Everyday we spent together was filled with fun and nonsense. Brent, it was my honour. May you be centre ice, smiling as you hear me yell, 'skate ya fat lards'!

I had the great pleasure of knowing Brent during his years as a student at SCS, where I work. We crossed paths many times, chatted often, and one year for Halloween, I was Batman to his Robin (I believe there's a picture of us in the yearbook). Last year, I was part of the committee that recruited Brent to star in one of the Board's pro-diversity and acceptance-based videos, which was incredibly well-received and shown in numerous schools at both elementary and secondary levels (indeed, Brent will live on through that video, which will continue to be used in teacher-training and to foster and promote inclusion among our youngest thru teenage students for years to come). Please accept my condolences on his loss. Here at SCS, we are remembering and celebrating Brent's lasting impact on our hearts and minds. He will not be forgotten. ~Mr. Dale
