I had the privilege of working  for Dave at the Judy LaMarsh building in Chatham, Ontario.
Dave was on of kindest people I’ve met.




I am sorry to hear about Dave, my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I worked for/with him in Chatham at the Judy Lamarsh building.  He was one of my favourite managers, always approachable. Dave would make a point to stop by my desk every once in awhile and talk about football.  Oski Wee Wee

Please accept my sincere condolences.  I remember Dave as my Director in Chatham Disability.  I was a Team Leader and he told me "Cory,  the Managers and I have an off site meeting and I'm leaving you in charge.  We will be over there, deciding what problems to send your way."  I responded "no worries Dave I'm going to send everyone home due to inclement weather!" (it was July).   We enjoyed a good laugh.  Dave brought levity and good spirits to our workplace.

My sincerest sympathies to Monica and the Elliott family. Dave was one in a million, he had a passion to serve and was such a giving person, he was a mentor and friend.  The stars are shining brighter with the addition of his light. Adieu my friend. 


To Monica and Dave's family and friends. I'm so sorry for your loss. I never worked directly with Dave, but he was always right there getting you the information you needed. More than that his smile, humour, and down to earth sense of businesswas were one of a kind. 

Many years ago I first met Dave as our new Director for PHD.  He came in on the heels of a large scandal and quickly got to work helping to rebuild our morale, and that he did.  He always supported his management team and his staff and he proved to be a great mentor, someone we aspired to emulate.  Dave loved his daughters which was evidenced by the photos of them in his office and the pride in which he spoke of them.  He loved to talk about his trips to China and his perspective on global politics (where many things he projected would happen have happened).  He was also a visionary when it came to service delivery; years earlier while I was still a manager, he spoke of call centers being networked nationally and their staff working from home. On a personal front, Dave was an amazing boss, a good friend and my advocate.  Many times over the years I've had colleagues approach me to tell me how highly regarded I was by Dave, that he would tell them about this up and coming leader they needed to meet.  Those conversations filled me with a sense of pride and even greater admiration for him.  Further, he is the reason that I remained in the federal family.  I was on the list to transfer to the Province and I felt helpless as I did not want to transfer and my efforts to stay kept hitting a brick wall.  Dave aggressively marketed me and negotiated an exchange to secure my tenure within the Service Canada family.  For this I am eternally grateful as, like him, I've always been so proud of our department and being a federal public servant.  My sincere condolences Monica to you, your family and to Dave's extended family.

I viewed Dave's memorial service on line yesterday and was very touched by the tributes from his family and friends.  We worked in the same department but not on a daily basis.  Yet, I remember a number of conversations with him, many of which started about work but ended up more about family, values, learning, travel.  They were great conversations that told me something of the kind of person he was outside of work.  His granddaughters, brother and friends added texture to that today.
My deepest condolences to Dave's entire family.  The sad news of his passing is rippling through our department and is touching people more than you know.

My sincere condolences to Monica and family.  Dave was a proud Canadian so much so I remember when he had the maple leaf tattooed on his arm. We had good office chats at the end of the work day about what mattered most in his life such as family,  food he made and the Tiger Cats.  Some good times, and thank you for your leadership, I learned a lot. Rest in peace Dave.

I worked for EI in my early days of Federal Government life. Dave was a Manager, sometimes referred to as a 'Director' who occasionally visited our office to update us and sometimes answer questions. He always seemed well informed and down to earth. Many Government managers seemed to come from a different planet, but not Dave. My deepest condolences to his large family. Especially his children. I'm glad he was able to enjoy a few years of retirement away from the Feds. Must have been like heaven before Heaven.



I'm sad to hear of the passing of my mentor and friend. Dave was kind, funny, and always had great advice. I'll miss him.

My deepest condolences to Monica and Dave's family. I was blessed to meet Dave at work and remember his engaging smile that first day. Dave was a true humanitarian. He was supportive, caring and one of the most approachable Directors I have ever met. Dave was never too busy to talk to anyone who had a problem or needed his advice. If he was in a meeting, he would reach out immediately after and I suspect that Dave often neglected his own self, while giving so freely to others. I will never forget his encouragement and support. Thank you Dave and rest in peace. 

Dave was a wonderful human being. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with him when he was our Director at ESDC/Service Canada. I learned a lot from him about leadership and how you take care of your staff.  His office with the comfy couch, big bowl of peanuts and ready sage advice was a welcoming refuge for many. My colleagues and I have shared similar stories of his compassion and how he always went the extra mile to ensure we were all taken care of. He taught us people always came first. He was one in a million and will be dearly missed. 
I hope his family is well supported at this difficult time. Monica, please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember him fondly and had  the great opportunity to work with Dave during his reign as the Director for the Judy LaMarsh building.  I have not seen him since he left Chatham but, I do remember him as a wise, sincere and good man.  Dave always took the time to listen and understand,  he was open for discussions, provided great advice and shared his wisdom with a smile.  Sending prayers to his family for strength, love and warm hugs for comfort during this difficult time.   

Dear Monica and Elliot Family, I am sorry for your loss of such an amazing person. Dave dedicated his life to people. His infectious love, support, smile and dedication to all that he crossed paths will always be idolized. You don’t find to many people in your life that give you that time despite what is going on in their own lives. What he stood for, the stories he would share and the integrity he always displayed is untouchable.  Dave, I thank you for all you brought to my life.  I am glad I was able to say Thank You!! You are a true leader in every way and I hope I will follow in those footprints in my personal life and work life.    Monica, you  and Dave have been stars in my eyes. You both emulated the art of compassion, care and love to all you encountered.  Thank you!! The memories will always live on.

Dave is fondly remembered by his smile, his sense of humour, his love of family, and his years of dedication to the Public Service. Dave has made a difference and huge impact in the family we call Service Canada.

Dave was always a friendly face and a big smile when i would be in Mississauga for training.  My condolences to the family.  RIP Dave. 

When Dave was working in RHQ while we're still called "ISP-Income Security Programs", he was very respected and loved by his team members and many of the RHQ employees.  He was so knowledgeable and keen in technology and never afraid of challenges and obstacles. A wonderfully supportive leader and a kind man, that's how we'll remember him. My most sincere condolences to the family.

I was heartbroken to hear of Dave’s passing.  My deepest condolences to his daughters and the rest of the Elliott family.  I worked with Dave at Service Canada for many years, first in London, then in Mississauga. I always admired his commitment to serving Canadians, and the support he always gave his staff.  On a personal level, I knew him as generous, dedicated to family, and a great role model to my kids for many years.  Dave and I kept in touch in recent years and I was devastated when, in late February, he told me about his illness.  I greatly regret that that was our last conversation, and I did not have the chance to say goodbye.  Dave, you know, you will be greatly missed by many.  Rest in eternal peace! My sincere condolences to Monica and all of Dave's family. I was so sad in to hear about Dave. I have such fond memories of working at the Glen Erin office with him. He was always so kind to me. Even though we worked in different business lines his door was always open  for a quick chat. He always had something entertaining to say.

It is very hard to write a condolence,  David was a special kind of guy he was very humble in his ways , he took time for people on a one to one level , he didn't show his power , he was not unreachable,  David had an open office concept and he made people feel welcomed. . One of my greatest memories at work was  working on a Service Canada Arts Charity calendar , " with one of my co-workers. David was so proud of the calendar. David said, " You guys made our office Proud." I still have that calendar framed till this day,

The world lost a great man and humanitarian in Dave Elliott. I thank him for the opportunities and the confidence he had in me in our work life. I can’t express in words how much his leadership and friendship influenced my career. 
We often talked of golf and getting out to play a round, my only regret is, we never did play that round. 
I am deeply saddened by his passing, the fond memories will live on.

As my Dad’s best friend, Dave has been in my life for all of my 43 years. He was always there for my family. 

My favourite memory of me and Dave is our Chatham to Peterborough round trip moving my sister into her dorm in September, 2000. As a newly minted adult, I was so pleased to finally be able to fully engage Dave in conversation on several political and historical topics along the 401.  Without knowing it, he gave me the scholastic confidence I lacked that I later used to return to university and complete my studies. As a fellow public servant, Dave has always been one of my role models.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family  and friends.

I wanted to express my sincere condolences to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Dave, especially to Monica and his family.  I am concerned in writing this that I will not be able to capture how much of an impact Dave had on those who knew him.  Dave was  able to project confidence without arrogance and as such, anyone felt comfortable in his presence. I have so much gratitude towards him, and the positive influence he had in my life.  I will forever laugh at his stories, and feel comfort remembering his smile knowing that he truly cared about others. 

Dave Elliott was a warm, caring, generous, witty and approachable manager.  He was the best manager I ever had the pleasure in knowing.  I only knew him the year I started working at the Courtney office but I looked forward to his meetings.  He retired in 2014.  He always gave meaningful advice and kept employees up to date about what was going to happen.  I would talk to him at the end of the day in the parking lot and he was always friendly and kind and gave great advice that I use to this day.  It was a pleasure to remember him and I am thankful to have known him for the brief period that I did.  Never will forget someone who gave off such a bright aura. Thanks for the memories Dave!

Sincere condolences to Mr. Elliott's family.  It's been awhile but Dave had a calm, natural approach to managing.  He respected the staff and in turn he got respect. No tearing off bandages for events that did not exist. I hope his kids and grandkids will cherish his time on earth. it was a pleasure working in the same department when Dave was there. May he rest in enjoyment!

Dave and I go back a long way in my career and I must say , not in a mean spirited way, although we did not always agree on the method we always wanted the same outcomes for our clients and our staff.
Dave and I have kept in touch in recent years and I was so sad to hear of his illness. 
I remember years ago when I  received an email from Dave wishing me a Happy New Year. As I hadn't heard from Dave since his retirement, I emailed him back asking if this was really Dave or was this a spam email. We both had a good laugh over that.
I have lots of fond memories of Dave. He will be sadly missed.

Hello to Dave's family and friends.  I was so saddened to hear about Dave - not just this week but over the last few months when I learned he was sick.   I have a very special place in my heart for Dave.  About 12 years ago he called to offer me a manager position and was so nervous having no managerial experience at all.  I accepted after his strong words of encouragement and faith in me.  He met me on my very first day in my new office and then took me under his wing and was ALWAYS there for me for the 5-6 years that we worked together.    Even in a work crisis he had a calming effect on me and he assured me he was there to support me.  He always came through. As time went on we became friends and spoke about so many topics.  He reminded me of my own dad -so warm and a  bit larger than life. When he told me he read the Fifty Shades of Grey books I was shocked - seemed so out of character for him but he wanted to see what all the fuss was about with the book.  We laughed at how lousy it was written.   He also took an interest in Israel where I travelled often to visit my dad.  We kept in touch over the last few years often him reaching out to me first.    Just last week I discussed Dave with Linh and I said I wanted to plan a visit and then yesterday I was shocked by the sad news.  I am upset I will not be able to have that visit but it will enable me to remember Dave as the grand man that he was.     I express my deepest condolences to everyone on this immense loss.  May your strong memories of Dave be a blessing to all.

My deepest condolences to Monica, and Dave’s family.  We lost a great man. Dave was truly one of a kind, not afraid to voice his opinion and not backing up from any obstacles. I still recall meeting Dave for the first time 12 years ago, and was so glad to find out what a kind and gentle soul behind this giant.  I enjoyed the personal stories as well as the amazing journey of 40 plus years in the public service (well I really had no choice, working side by side with you for 5 years was not a short time :)).  We shared a lot of laughs too, and I looked forward to your emails and sushi lunches after you retired.  I will miss you Dave! Rest in peace.

I had the honour and privilege of working with Dave when I transferred to the region. He was humble, smart, funny, and incredibly kind. Dave never waivered in his protection of his staff, his open door policy, truly was an open door. I had many occasions to learn from Dave; his words of wisdom I still apply and share with others to this day.  Long after working for him, he still provided support and wisdom that has helped me immeasurably.  I will be forever grateful for Dave, beyond any words. I wish peace and healing for Dave’s family and my sincerest condolences. 

My deepest regrets to Monica and family. Dave was a wonderful, caring, and intelligent man who used his talents to the fullest in the service of Canadians. A role model for future Public Servants. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.



Monica and the entire Elliott family I offer my sincere condolences. It saddens me to  hear of Dave's passing. Although I have not seen him since my retirement I remembered him to be a sincere, open and understanding Director. It is comforting to know that he is now in a better place and pain free. I’m deeply saddened to hear about Dave’s passing.  I had the pleasure of working for him at Service Canada and a more understanding kind gentleman you could not find.  After retirement I would occasionally run into him at our local grocery store he would always stop and chat a bit always had a smile. Dave believed in the services we provided  and the people who provided the service. I admired his passion and his leadership in getting it done.  Dave was somebody with whom it was a treat to work and to pass some time and I appreciated him for that.

I worked with Dave at Service Canada until I retired 10 years ago.  He was my boss and friend. Last summer, I met Dave along with Rose McKenzie for lunch in Dundas...We spent hours eating, chatting and laughing about everything from travel to movies and oh yes a bit of politics. Sadly, that was the last time I saw Dave...
