With deep regret and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Monica Gemma Romany. Monica passed away peacefully at home on the morning of May 31. She left our world confident that she will join her mother Benita and her brother Gregory in celestial paradise. She was the victim in a courageous bout with the effects of cancer. She was in her seventy- seventh year. Monica was an unassuming philanthropist, always willing to lend a hand to help those in need. Her many years working in a pediatric environment rendered her particularly sensitive to the welfare of younger mothers and their children. She was a vibrant soul ever ready with support and advice for every occasion. She will be missed by her husband Steve of 57 years, her children, Lennis, Tony (Kate), Nigel (Gail), her sister Pamela and her children Anita and Kieran, and her brother Gary. She was the quintessential doting Grandma to Chelsea (Trevor), Jasmine, Danielle, Stephanie and Jacob. Monica was an avid sports enthusiast. She was a keen competitor on the links and a hard-nosed player on the tennis court. Her competitive nature was fulfilled when she watched her beloved Blue Jays and the Raptors on the tube. It is said that death takes away a life, but not a relationship. The memories will linger. You left many. Goodbye Grandma. Sleep well. Rest with peace. Because of the restrictions caused by the Coronavirus, a private family funeral ceremony will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been arranged. Kindly direct donations to: Pediatric Unit, Brantford General Hospital, 200 Terrace Hill St. Brantford, ON, N3R 1G9. Arrangements entrusted to “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”.
