

Peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 in her 94th year. Josephine (nee Jaworski), beloved wife of the late George Sroka, and the late Frank Mazur; loving mother of Richard and his wife Alice; cherished Babcia of Michael, Paul (Katy) and Peter. Dear sister of Katherine Sawicki. She will also be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Josephine is predeceased by her infant son, her parents, Joseph Jaworski and Maria Goj, step-father Jan Tuczynski, by one sister, Anna Wiecek, and four brothers, Marion Jaworski, Adam Tuczynski, Stanley Tuczynski, and Frank Tuczynski. Josephine was captured by the Russians and taken to Siberia to serve in labour camps. In 1941 she was released from the labour camps and transferred to the Middle East and Africa to settlement camps. After which she made her way to England where she enlisted and served in World War II in the Royal Air Force. She married George Sroka in 1949 where they ran their tobacco farm in the Brantford-Oakland area for over two decades. She was a hard working woman who was devoted to her family and faith. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Parish. The family will receive friends at the THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 96 West Street, Brantford, on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. CWL Rosary will be held on Friday at 3 pm and Parish Prayers at 8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 235 Brant Avenue, Brantford followed by interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
