

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of June Szeman surrounded by her family at the Brantford General Hospital, on May 31, 2017 in her 76th year. Beloved Wife of John for 55 years. Loving Mother of Lisa (Kevin), Jack, and Marina. Doting Grandma of Alina Creek, Steve Creek, Julia Szeman, Levi and Mia. Sadly missed by siblings Linda (Bob) Hodgins, Bill Kovach (Jean), Carl (Shelley) Kovach and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends. A lifelong resident of Brantford and active member of St Mary’s Church, June served as a classroom teacher, a consultant and elementary principal in Brantford and Superintendent of Education in Oxford County and amalgamated LDCSB. She was active in OECTA and served on CPTA, OCSOA, Community Living Brant (which was very dear to her heart) and Grand River Women’s Probus. June was the founder of the Petofi Hungarian Club, Catering Manager at the German Canadian Club, served 8 years on the Board of Directors of the Brant County Healthcare System and 14 years as trustee for the BHNCDSB. She was also involved in various City of Brantford Committees and the committee for Employment Standards for those with Disabilities. June held executive positions including President of Brant RTO/ERO #40 and 5 years on Provincial Executive of RTO/ERO and a term as Director of Canadian Probus. Her passing will be felt deeply by her family, friends and her beloved community. She was always ready and willing to serve others. The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”, 96 West St. on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 2-5pm and Monday, June 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 133 Murray St., on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 11am, interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Community Living Brant or the Brant Community Healthcare System Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
