CARL, Katherine A., on July 17, a cherished mum who will be sorely missed by her daughters Jane of Brantford and Julie of Toronto and her best friend and son-in-law Donald Musson. Treasured Mummum to her grandchildren Evan (Kristi) of Brantford and Katherine (Chris) of Toronto. Predeceased by her husband Leonard and many beloved relatives in England. An incredible woman, Katherine lived a long and vibrant life. As a teenager, she survived the London Blitz, but her heart remained in East Bradenham, the tiny Norfolk village where she grew up. Enthralled with what she knew of Canada through the Whiteoaks of Jalna books, Katherine immigrated to this country in the 1950s. She was a voracious reader, passionate about the arts, particularly music and theatre, and instilled a drive for education in her daughters. After she finished raising them, she returned to school herself, entering nursing college on her 55th birthday. Katherine started her career as a registered nurse at the Toronto General Hospital’s renal ward and later spent many happy years nursing at the Willett Hospital in Paris. There was little she could not turn her hand to: family poet; dog trainer; photographer; world traveler; seamstress extraordinaire. A generous humanitarian, Katherine supported many worthy causes, two favourites were Sleeping Children Around the World and Operation Eyesight Universal. But a fitting way to mark her passing would be to take a walk in nature and note all the shades of green, Katherine’s favourite colour. A private funeral service will be held.
