After a peaceful vigil, Lucietta Cupoli of Brantford passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. Called to the Lord in her 86th year, Lucietta was predeceased by her beloved husband, Luciano, in 1982.
She is survived by their four children, Vito of Toronto; Ennio (Tamara), Jean (Wally) Hull, and Lisa, all of Brantford. Each was lovingly devoted to her care and wellbeing both before and during her illness.
Lucietta’s grandchildren were a constant source of joy. She cherished her time with Gregory Hull, the first to arrive, followed by Olivia Hull, Alexandria Cupoli and Rachel Cupoli & Penny too. She is also survived by her brothers Michele Martino, formerly of Brantford and now of Celle di San Vito, Italy; her brother, Antonio, of Brantford and her younger sister, Nardine, of Vergato, Italy. She is predeceased by her brothers, Vincenzo and Donato, of Brantford and sister, Carmelina Petruzzelli, of Philadelphia. She will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from all sides of her family in Canada, the States and Italy.
The family is especially thankful to the good people of St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, doctors, nurses and PSWs and administrators for looking after her so lovingly.
Lucy lived in Brantford for over sixty years, mostly in the north-end where she moved to Dunsdon Street at a time when it ended at Memorial Drive. Born in the small mountain village of Celle di San Vito, Italy, she and Luciano came to the city in the mid-1950s when many from their family and village were settling in the area. They had previously lived in Vancouver and Red Lake, Ontario. In Brantford, Lucy would overcome challenges and go on to build four homes, each nicer than the last, and she never stopped thinking about her next building project.
Anyone who worked with Lucy saw what an extremely hard worker she was, especially at Barber Ellis, the envelope company where she spent most of her work life. There, she was a member of the “Quarter Century Club” and she looked forward to the induction ceremonies each year until she could no longer make the trip. She set a number of all time records for producing the most envelopes in a day and was proud to see her name at the top of the scoreboard.
Lucy will also be remembered by her friends and customers in the catering industry, particularly at the Hungarian and German Halls. She loved to “dish up” the food and have people come back for more. In her spare time, she enjoyed roaring fires in her wood stove and many happy evenings of square dancing at clubs around Southern Ontario. During retirement she became a seasoned traveller making visits to Hawaii, the Panama Canal, Colombia and France to name a few. And she enjoyed Sunday morning mass at St. Pius X Church where she was part of the community for 50 years.
More than anything, Lucietta wanted to help the people she knew and loved. She was always ready to pitch in and learn a new task. If she had something, she’d share it including her many great ideas and suggestions.
With her clear sense of what heaven would be like, Lucietta is now reunited with Luciano, her parents, Anna and Achille, her wider family and in-laws. No doubt, someone will build a big log fire and they’ll catch up, like they used to do in Celle.
The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME”, 96 West St., on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, 9 Waverly St., on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 11am, which will be lived streamed.
