Adelaide Loyland Jensen
May 1, 1922 – December 26, 2012
Adelaide was born on a farm near Thompson, N.D., the second of seven children of Andrew and Gina Loyland. An exceptional student, she graduated high school at age 16 and received her teaching certificate from Mayville College in 1940. After teaching for two years in Emerado, N.D. she moved to Bremerton in 1944, where she taught at Dewey Jr. High and then worked for the postal service. She married Carl V. Jensen in 1951.
Adelaide was very active in the Sons of Norway and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed dancing, Scrabble, crosswords, and painting, and was awarded the Golden Acorn for her work in the P.T.A. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl and son Stephen, and brothers Verl, Tilman, Lance, and sister Gladys. She is survived by her son Gregory (Pamela) Jensen of Bremerton, grandchildren Joseph of Los Angeles and Angela of Spokane, sisters Gudrun Frechin of Seattle and Arlene Enyeart of Woodinville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bremerton Sons of Norway Scholarship Fund, Oslo Lodge 2-35, 1018 18th St., Bremerton, WA 98337.
