Al was born in Springfield, Ohio on December 23, 1928 to Albert and Nellie Stabler and was raised in Springfield. As a young teen Al worked at a local Mom and Pop grocery store in Springfield to help fund his dream of flying and saw that dream come true when he soloed for the first time. Flying was in his blood.
Al joined the Navy when he was 18 and was assigned duty on the USS Princeton aircraft carrier.
In 1947 the Princeton was ported at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton. It was during this time that him and some of his shipmates were billeted at the Kitsap County Airport as it was called then. One evening he decided to take a walk down the airport taxiway. As he was walking past the airport managers house he was invited in to attend a party that the managers daughter was having. It was there that he met and fell in love with Mary June Moore. They were married in September of that year and spent the next 75 years together in Bremerton and Allyn until Mary's death on December 3, 2022. Upon his death Al has taken another journey to once again meet up with Mary to spend eternity with her.
After his discharge from the Navy and his marriage to Mary, Al worked at odd's and end jobs and then found work at Boeing's for a short time and was then hired as a blacksmith at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. He retired from the Shipyard in 1982 as head of Code 135 inspection.
One of Al's passions was flying and he built his own plane, a Pete Bowers designed Fly Baby. He spent many hours flying this plane and when he retired it he donated it to the Boeing Museum Of Flight where it is still on display.
Al is predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents, his brother Nelson and sister Louise and many others from his extended family. He is survived by his son Randy, daughter Wendy(Jim), son Richard (Anita), sister-in-law Carol Stabler and her daughter Andrea both of Springfield, Grandson Jason (Amanda), Granddaughter Tara (Jesse) and their children Jace, Zak and Taylor, Granddaughters Jennifer, Amanda, Emily and Sarah, great granddaughters Kiara, Paris, Syndelle and Kali, great grandson Dominic, great great grandson Ryder and former daughter in law Dolores.
