Alys M Arionus

Alys Marie Arionus passed away March 16, at Martha & Mary Care Center at the age of 105 years old. Alys was born in Northome Mn on September 10th, 1917 to Anne and Ed Bowman. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Verne Bowman and Ernie Bowman and sister Ardena Doss all of Minnesota. In 1939 she married Leonard Arionus and they had five children. Alys is survived by daughters Nancy Van Buskirk, Bremerton, Dianne Elledge of Snohomish Wa. and Kay Thomas (Bill) of SeaTac and sons Keith (Nancy) of Bonney Lake, and Steve from Black Diamond Wa. She has 11 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. They settled in Bremerton in 1951 after leaving farm life in Blackduck Minnesota to work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Alys was a stay-at-home mom, and in her later years enjoyed crocheting afghans for NAG (Needle Art Guild) which were donated to several different organizations, and volunteered 20 yrs for Lutheran Social Services. Alys believed in the power of prayer and was head of Memorial Lutheran Church Prayer Chain for many years. Alys also enjoyed working the crossword puzzles and was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church. After her husband passed away she lived independently until she turned 97 years. For the last eight years she lived with her daughter Nancy and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with residents of Silverdale Estates. Alys enjoyed family celebrations, and crocheting afghans, for the every family member. Alys will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Alys will be cremated and her ashes taken to Northome Mn. for burial next to her parents in the Bowman family plot. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 24, at 11:00am, at Peace Lutheran Church 1234 Riddell Rd in Bremerton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace Lutheran School or Lutheran Social Services.
