Blanche Marie Harkness, a loving mother, a devoted Catholic, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 91. Her unwavering faith, love for family, and kind spirit were the foundation of her remarkable life.
Born on January 29, 1933, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Blanche was the daughter of Mary Hartman and Joe Geffre. She grew up in a close-knit community, where she developed her strong Catholic faith, which became a guiding light throughout her life. Blanche had a deep devotion to the rosary, praying it daily as a source of peace and strength.
Blanche was blessed with two loving marriages. She was first married to Ronald Ronkar, who preceded her in death. Later, she married Jack Harkness, who also preceded her in death. She was the proud mother of six children: Georgia Tharaldson, Randy Ronkar (deceased), Tom Ronkar (deceased), Jim Ronkar, Jane Clark (deceased), and Paul Ronkar. She adored her many grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.
A dedicated member of her parish at Our Lady Star of the Sea, Blanche was active in the church choir and the Altar Society. Her faith-filled life was reflected in her service to others and her commitment to her community.
Blanche is survived by her children, Georgia Tharaldson, Jim Ronkar and Paul Ronkar, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ronald Ronkar and Jack Harkness; her children Randy Ronkar, Tom Ronkar, and Jane Clark; and other beloved family members.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Bremerton, WA. The service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a rosary, followed by the Mass. A reception to celebrate Blanche’s life will be held afterward in Camerman Hall and all are welcome to attend.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Vineyard Park, where Blanche resided for many years, for their kindness and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society in Blanche’s memory.
Blanche will be remembered for her faith-filled heart, her devotion to family, and the enduring love and grace she shared with all who knew her.
