

Carrene M. Wood, 78, passed away in Bremerton on Nov 10, 2013. Born Jul 23, 1935 in Billings, MT, she was the daughter of Robert and Isabelle Zimmerman. Carrene married Donald H. Wood in Federal Way on May 14, 1983.
She attended West Seattle High School, Evergreen State College, and the University of Puget Sound School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate. She served as a lawyer, court commissioner, and judge pro-tem. During her lifetime, Carrene also worked in real estate sales, residential building & remodeling, and was a secretary and a union representative.
Carrene enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, and quilting. She was a member of numerous bar associations, committees, and community groups. She served on the Hood Canal Wetlands Project, North Mason Park Advisory Council, & Economic Development Council of Mason County. She was a member of the Mason County Bar Assn, Tacoma Pierce County Bar Assn, a member of and served on the Legislative Committee of the Tacoma Pierce County Bar Assoc., Judge/Commissioner Liaison committee, and the Washington State Bar Assoc. Family Law subcommittee on child support. She was a Pro-bono attorney for the Mason County Legal Services, and Evergreen Legal Services. She was also a member of the Kiwanis, past secretary for the N. Mason Chamber of Commerce and served on the Theler Wetlands committee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and brother, Dale P. Zimmerman. She is survived by a sister, Kora Arnell; daughters, Lesa Wyatt, Debra Venis, Daina Johnson, & Wendy Kelly; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Carrene will be best remembered for her sense of humor and the stories she could tell. She always had a positive attitude, never quit, fought every battle and never backed down from a challenge. She was a great wife, friend, mentor, mother, daughter, sister and she will not be forgotten.
Services will be held on Sunday, November 17th at the Mary E Theler Community Center, 22871 Washington 3, Belfair, WA at 2:00 pm.
