

Evelyn Jean Tinner (Hetrick) was born in Oregon City, Oregon on November 11th 1942. She passed away surrounded by her family and friends at Saint Anthony's Hospital on October 7th 2025 at 82 years old. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Leonard and Eva (Downing) Tinner, her parents Everett and Phyllis (Preheim) Tinner, and her ex-husband Carrol Hetrick.
She is survived by her five children Helen Daniel Johnson, Paula Rippee, Jessica Torkelson, Dawn Rowe, and Norman Hetrick. Her Grandchildren Michael Noll, Bill and Michelle Ritter, Jason and Jan Ehman, Joe Devery, Matthew Swager, Joshua Hetrick Cowan, James Hetrick, Morgan Heath, Dustin Hetrick, Ashley Hetrick, Skylar Lehmann, Elizabeth Vail, Timothy and Cari Kimball, her 24 Great Grandchildren, and 1 great great grand child.
Evelyn was raised by her paternal grandparents. She grew up in Oregon City, where she attended a two room school house. Then she went on to graduate from the old Oregon City High School. Evelyn spent many years raising her children and some of her grandchildren. She always cared about her family and did whatever she could to support them through the years.
Evelyn was Catholic and spent many years worshiping at St. Gabriel in Port Orchard. She was a fun and lively woman who loved to go on adventures, going fishing and crabbing, going to the beach, seeing lighthouses, and spending time with those that she loved. She also enjoyed camping, seeing national parks, and going on road trips.
She was amazing at finding lost and hurting souls and becoming a light to them when they were struggling in the darkness . Evelyn was a strong leader in her community. She was a 4-H leader, taught cooking classes, was a coach for the Special Olympics in Port Orchard, and she was on the board for Jackson Park in Port Orchard. She served as president of the board for Peninsula Community Health Services. She also served on the executive committee of the community advocacy committee and as a long-time chairperson. She was active with the SEIU 775 caregiver union for many years, working as a caregiver herself and spent many years supporting and advocating for the union. She spent time working at the school office and at Miller-Woodlawn funeral home.
She enjoyed dressing up as “Grandma Clown” and would go visit schools and farmers markets. She enjoyed local events like the Bremerton Blackberry Festival, local farmers markets, the Kitsap County fair and rodeo, pride parades (She was grand marshal and dressed as the queen of hearts), and drag shows.
The family has decided to hold the memorial on January 18th at noon in order to allow family and friends that live out of the area to make arrangements to attend. It will be held at the Masonic Center in Port Orchard at 1025 Sidney Ave. Donations can be made to the Trevor Project (www.thetrevorproject.org) in lieu of sending flowers.
