Evelyn Harlow Hubert of Bremerton, Washington passed away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 89, following an extended illness. She was born on February 7, 1934 in Richmond, California to Henry Albert and Evelyn Maude Harlow.
When she was 12 years old, she moved to Kitsap Lake in Bremerton where she grew up spending time with church friends, playing the violin and piano, reading and swimming during the summer months. After graduation from Bremerton High School in 1951, she married and spent some time living in Knoxville, Tennessee and Washington DC before returning to Bremerton. She was an active member of Charleston Baptist Church, where she was the church secretary and made many lifelong friends.
Evelyn had a love of music from a very young age, playing the violin and piano as well as singing in the church choir where she often sang solos or duets for services and weddings. Later in life she joined a community choir in California, The Gingerbread Singers, where she also directed the group.
She enjoyed office work and over the years worked for Harrison Hospital, The Doctor’s Clinic, Walter Coomes Insurance Adjuster, all in Bremerton, as well as spending many years in volunteer service for Hospice.
In 1968, Evelyn married Glenn Rudolph and moved to California where she spent the next 39 years. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and had many good memories of living in El Dorado Hills where she continued to enjoy music; playing the piano, singing, attending musical performances as well as gardening, golf, knitting, cooking and entertaining family and friends. She spent many happy hours visiting with her children and grandchildren who made regular vacation visits to her home. Sadly, she was widowed in 2001. She moved back to Bremerton in 2007 when she married longtime friend, Mac McComas, before being widowed again that same year. She married Harvey Hubert, another longtime friend, in 2015 and again was widowed when Harvey passed in 2022.
Evelyn loved to travel making visits to many historic and scenic cities in the US as well as traveling abroad to Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Copenhagen, Oslo, the Elbe River and Austria.
Evelyn spent hours with handwork. Over the years, she sewed clothes for her children, mother, and herself. She embroidered, crocheted and especially enjoyed knitting. As a young girl, her first experience knitting was taught to her by a missionary using string and a couple of large nails. She went on to lovingly make many afghans, sweaters, hats and Christmas tree ornaments for family and friends.
Evelyn had a strong Christian faith, a loving and giving heart and was devoted to her family and friends. A favorite daily prayer was Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother and 3 sisters. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Larson (Edward) Snohomish, WA; Diane Martin (James) Seabeck, WA; David Venes Tacoma, WA; Glenna Wood Citrus Heights, CA; Dawna Russell Bothell, WA; Randall Rudolph Novata, CA; 12 grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren.
There will be a remembrance service on Saturday, October 28th at 11:00 am at Miller-Woodlawn in Bremerton, Washington.
A special thank you to staff and friends at Canterbury Manor in Bremerton who she considered family and who contributed greatly to her life being comfortable and content these past several years.
