Mrs. Novotny was a great friend to our mom, Virgil Nervik , so I had the privilege of knowing her as I grew up in Bremerton.  My condolences and prayers to all of her friends and family.

I met Florene when I was 5 years old. I would go to her mothers house, (Rita) with my grandma and watch Little House on the Prairie. Every Christmas my sister and I would go to Florene and Ray's house with a gift and she always had something special for us. Usually something she has made. Florene was my grandma's best friend. They shopped, played bingo and went to church together. I was always so happy my grandma had a great neighbor and friend. I moved into Florene's mother-in-law house in 1996 and I rented from her for 8 years. Florene was always so dear to me and we enjoyed our neighborhood picnics every summer. As Florene aged she needed more help but she would never ask. I started taking her shopping and to the bank when she could no longer drive. Her son Mike did such an amazing job checking on her when he was driving long haul. Finally Mike moved into her the little house and took great care of his mom. Florene moved into an assisted living home three years ago. Mike went to see her daily while he was in town. Florene was so proud of both her boys and she loved them dearly.When Mike passed in July I knew when Florene finally passed he would be waiting with open arms to welcome her home. She has been a constant in my life for 39 years. I will miss her greatly. Anytime I left her she would say to me to be sure and let her know if there was anything she could do for me. I want her to enjoy the reunion with her family and my grandma and to know she touched my life in such a sweet way, I love and miss you my friend.

Prayers and love to all of Florenes family and friends.  She will be missed.  She was so fortunate to have a friend in Angela Flesher, who seemed to always be there to help her.

My Dearest Florene, my heart is heavy with your loss. But I must remember all the wonderful times we had together, your beautiful shiny blue eyes, and the voice of an angel when you sang. Your quick whit surprised me, and wonderful humor filled with lots of laughter. Your stories of days of old were amazing, I could listen for hours and it only covered a very small portion of your very full life. I was blessed to have been part of it, and you will always be part of me. They say God puts people in your life for a reason, and I'm glad he put you in mine! You have a piece of my heart, I love you!! Heidi

He put his arms around you, and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids, and whispered Peace be thine. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

Florene Joyce Novotny, 98, of Bremerton, was born in Joplin Missouri, later moving to Oklahoma City. She died peacefully in her sleep December 4th. She married Raymond Novotny Dec 31st 1938. They adopted two beautiful boys from a Catholic orphanage, Michael and Chris Novotny. Later moving to Bremerton around 1947. Florene was devoted Catholic that attended Our Lady Star of the Sea. She was a talented artist who enjoyed sketching and oil painting nature scenes. She knitted in her spare time. The family enjoyed camping and trips to the ocean. Florene also loved shopping, playing bingo, baking sweet treats as she had quite the sweet tooth. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Preceded by her husband Raymond and son Michael.

Survived by son, Chris (daughter in law Laurie) Novotny of Seattle, granddaughters, Starla (Sam) Lujan of Seminole, Texas, Amanda Novotny of St. Cloud, Minn., and Melissa (Mike) Sullivan of Littlefork; and great-grandchildren, Dakota Lujan, Dylan Lujan, Chaise Novotny, Wyatt Hell, Alivia Hell, Jax Sullivan and Greysen Sullivan.
Florene's good friends Angela Flesher and Heidi Holzer loved her dearly. 
Services will be held Friday December 18th at Our Lady Star of the Sea at 11am.
