Gail was born in Bremerton on March 31, 1953, to James and Dolores Green. She graduated from East High School in 1971. She earned an A.A. degree from Olympic College, a B.A. in history from the University of Washington, and a master’s degree from Seattle Pacific University in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on learning styles. She continued to earn credits beyond her master’s degree in various education topics. Gail loved to learn and continued this passion throughout her life.
She began her teaching career in the Bremerton School District as a substitute teacher and in 1978 became a full-time teacher at Navy Yard City Elementary. She retired in 2015 from West Hills STEM Academy.
She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. Gail was a Bremerton Education Association Union Rep for several years. She was a member of the Washington State School Retirees’ Assoc., Kitsap County. She was the social committee chairperson at West Hills where she organized numerous wedding and baby showers, retirement parties, and welcomed new staff members. She was a new teacher mentor for several years.
After retiring, she volunteered in many ways. She worked at God’s Kitchen serving meals. She supported Operation Gratitude by making handmade items for the troops. Gail crocheted baby cradles for Bridget’s Cradles and blankets for Angel Blankets. She supported the Men’s Mission of Tacoma, Coffee Oasis, and Backpack Brigade. These are just a few of the many ways Gail cared for people. She was generous with her time and support.
Gail was preceded in death by her father (1993), her mother (2019), and her sister Debbra Green (2013). She is survived by her sisters Cathy Jennings (John) of Bremerton and Sheri Clark (Herb) of Allyn. She is loved and missed by her niece Kristin Wilkes (Michael) of Marysville and their daughters Quinn and Emery and her nephew Justin Jennings (Michelle) of Bothell. She will be missed by her family and her many friends, especially Connie, her long-time friend of 50 years.
Gail enjoyed crocheting, reading, casino trips, a good cup of coffee, dark chocolate, and spending time with her family and friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. The family will honor Gail’s wishes for no funeral service and a private burial.
If you would like to honor Gail, donations may be made in her name to Bridget’s Cradles, Angel Blankets, Backpack Brigade or Coffee Oasis; both of Bremerton. Addresses may be found online.
