Jerry Alameda, devoted father, adoring grandfather, faithful friend, and loving companion left us on February 2, 2024, to reunite with his beloved wife of 60 years, Elsie, who proceeded him in passing.
He is survived by his 4 Children - Gerald (Leona), Kenneth (Mellody ~RIP), James (Tamera), Charlene (Joe Gray), 10 Grandchildren - Christina, James, Stephanie, Anthony, Kenny, Sarah, Andreah, Brianna, Cameron, and Lindsey and 10 Great-Grandchildren - Vanessa, Richie, James, Edward, Lydia, Araliegh, Mikey, Krissy, Austin, and Ayden. As well as his loving companion Sally Sipai.
Jerry will be remembered as a great storyteller and an attentive listener. He was often the first to arrive at a gathering and the last to leave, he really enjoyed being the life of the party and could always find the most comfortable chair in your home. In his life he had passion and great pride in his family, faith, Naval career, and his sobriety.
Born and raised in Oakland California suburbs, Jerry was the youngest of 3 children (brother Clyde and sister Lorraine) to parents Anthony and Ophelia Alameda. Jerry attended El Cerrito Schools, graduating from El Cerrito High School in 1955.
The summer after graduation Jerry joined the Navy. During a brief station in Bremerton Jerry agreed to a blind date with Miss Elsie Hall who was visiting her brother Edmund, a shipmate and friend of Jerry’s. As fate would have it, Jerry and Elsie would marry in 1958. The couple called many places home, relocating often during Jerry’s Naval career. Of all their travels the couple spent significant time living on Naval Station Treasure Island, which was conveniently close to family, and a blessed advantage while raising their 4 children. To this day the relationships with Aunts, Uncles and Cousins established in those years are cherished. In his career Jerry took distinct pride of his multiple tours in Vietnam. Post war and his career nearing end Jerry was relocated to Bangor Washington, where he would finally retire as Chief in 1982. Jerry and Elsie would call Bremerton home for the remainder of their 60 years together, exactly where they started on that blind date decades ago.
Jerry’s retirement years kept him busy. As a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Knights of Columbus, you would often find Jerry in the parish kitchen, on his chair tending to his contribution for the evening’s dinner. He coached many softball teams, if you were on his team – you probably called him Pops. He was active with AA, always there when needed and never judged as he believed in every individual.
We will all miss Jerry’s sincere laugh, big hugs, and vivaciousness. It will be just a little too quiet without him.
Funeral Mass for Jerry Alameda to be held at Holy Trinity Parish Thursday March 7th 12:30 Rosary, 1:00 Mass, 2:00 Reception.
