Gil was born on April 29, 1945 in Albay, Philippines. He was the second born of seven children. He graduated from Legazpi, College in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in January 1967. He served aboard the USS Eversole during the Vietnam War and thereafter, was stationed at Port Hueneme, CA. In 1969 he met the love of his life, Ofelia Oani in San Pedro, CA. They married on July 27, 1972, and later had four daughters. They moved to Japan when Gil accepted an assignment at a Navy detachment on Misawa Air Force Base. After the overseas tour, the Navy brought Gil and his family to Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. Gil also served on tours aboard the USS Orleck in Tacoma, WA, aboard USS Kidd in Norfolk, VA, spent time as a Navy Recruiter in Tacoma, and worked at the Personnel Support Activity (PSA) overseas at Naval Station, Guam. His last duty station was at PSA, Bangor, WA where he retired as a Senior Chief from the Navy, serving twenty-seven years. He returned to work for the Navy Civil Service at Bangor, and retired a second time after 15 years. Gil enjoyed caring for his pets, gardening, music, reading, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Gil is survived by his wife, Ofelia; his children, Faye (Kevin) Reyes, Cheryl (Vincent) Apolista, Kristen Lorena, Jillian (Tim) Lorena; grandchildren, Emanuelle, Yasmine and Kai Guzman, and Cecilia Dominice; and fur-grandchildren Charley, Francis Bean and Toby.
Gil is reunited with his parents, Filamon and Estelita Lorena; his siblings, Willy Lorena and Percy Lorena.
Gil’s affection, humor, and love will be greatly missed.
