Hamp Phillips was born January 31, 1942, in Charleston, South Carolina where he lived until he graduated from The Citadel with a degree in electrical engineering. He then moved to the Seattle area for his first job at Boeing. Hamp had a long career as an engineer with Honeywell, and later Raytheon where he retired at the age of 65. He was an avid boater, first sailboat racing, then cruising in his trawler up North. He went through the rankings of the Poulsbo yacht club and “graduated” as Commodore in 2005. Hamp was also a true Trekkie and could recite the dialogue in all episodes of Star Trek. If you were looking for Hamp, he could usually be found hanging out on his boat listening to (way too loud) music pumping through his incredible sound system or tinkering in the garage with his son or friends. Hamp was known for his outgoing, gregarious nature, his ability to fix just about anything, and equally, his ability to complicate any and all things electronic. He loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife Cindy, his children, Chip and Lara, and his grandsons Andres, David, and Arthur. He will be missed dearly by his family, his friends, and his community.
