Hugh ("Ozzie") Arzbaecher passed away peacefully Sunday at age 87, surrounded by members of his family.
Ozzie was born in Chicago to Hugo and Caroline Arzbaecher, and spent his youth there. In 1943 he was drafted into the WWII Army where he fought and was decorated for bravery in Belgium ("Battle of the Bulge") and Germany. Honorably discharged after the war, he returned to his family in Chicago, where he worked until retirement at Rheem Manufacturing Company and later moved to the Seattle area.
Ozzie was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Rose Marie, sister Carol, and brother Richard. Last year he lost his second wife Carole. He is survived by his daughter Anne Louise (Terry) Polena, brother Robert, grandchildren Jamie and Christopher, and his beloved "second family": Nancy Ashmore and her sons Samuel, Jordan, Andrew, and Alexander; Cissie Scott and her sons Jeff and Marcus, Joel and Joyce LaSarella, Jeff and Brenda LaSarella and their sons Nick, Pauli, and Jeff; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be long remembered for his gentleness and generosity. And he loved playing cards and dancing, so he will be missed by his friends at North Kitsap Senior Center.
Ozzie's life will be celebrated in a Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton.
