September 22, 1969 – August 27, 2026
John William Carr II, 56, of Seabeck, Washington, passed away on August 27, 2026, in the hood canal near his home in Seabeck.
John was born on September 22, 1969, and graduated from Mesquite High School in Texas in 1988. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy as an Aviation Electricians Mates (AE). Following his military service, John continued working hard and eventually became a small engines mechanic where he earned the nickname, “the generator man.” John later went on to establish his own business, Carr Construction.
John was a one-of-a-kind man who enjoyed living life on his own terms. He was known as a “redneck engineer,” and a “John of all trades,” and the kind of person who could figure out how to build, repair, modify, or create just about anything. He had a natural curiosity and a love for collecting interesting and unusual items. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, especially the thrill of heading off the side of the mountain.
But more than anything, John was known for his generous spirit. His heart was bigger than the state of Texas, and he considered everyone a brother. John never turned down an opportunity to help someone or lend a hand in his community. Whether someone needed help fixing something, building something, figuring something out, or simply needing someone to show up, John was there. He gave his time, his knowledge, his humor, and his friendship freely.
Those who knew John will remember his laughter, his stubborn determination, his ability to make something out of almost nothing, and the unmistakable way he expressed his affection:
“Love you, brotha.”
Those simple words captured so much of who John was. He loved deeply, stood by the people he cared about, and made an impact on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth A. Carr of Seabeck, Washington, with whom he shared his life and home. His children: John William Carr III, and his wife, Nichole Carr, of Woodbine, Georgia. Dakota-Louise R. Damschen of Seabeck, Washington. Cheyanne-Marie P. Thoma, and her husband, Kadin Olson, of Colville, Washington
John was a proud grandfather, also known as Poppy, to: Gracelyn Gail Carr, Harlow-Marie Elizabeth Beierle and Ember-Elizabeth Lucille Olson.
John is also survived by his mother, Helga Wiltse of Sierra Vista, Arizona. His sister, Heidi Lehnig, and her husband, Bob Lehnig, and their children, Maximillian, Heather, and Stephanie. His sister Wendy Parris, and her husband, Steven Parris.
John was preceded in death by his father, John William Carr, his brother, Matthew Wiltse, his sister Michaela Carr, and his niece, Jackie.
John enjoyed living life the way he wanted to. He was independent, resourceful, adventurous, sometimes (usually) unconventional, and always unapologetically himself. He left behind more than the things he built and collected—he left behind stories, laughter, lessons, friendships, and memories that will continue to live on through the people who loved him.
His family and friends will remember the man who could fix almost anything, the man who never hesitated to help, the man who was always having a good time, and the man whose heart was always big enough to make room for one more.
John will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Love you, brotha.
