Mr. John G. Hergert
June 27, 1936 – March 20, 2020
John Hergert, loving and caring husband and father of four daughters, passed away at the age of 83 on March 20, 2020. He was surrounded by family during his final hours.
John was born on June 27, 1936 in Walla Walla, Washington. He married Joyce (Kinkela) Hergert on June 1, 1957 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma, WA. Together, they raised four daughters, Lynn Kitts (Edward), Debbie Wolfram (Jason), Paula Sheldon (Jim) and Julie Brown (Kevin). John was an Army Veteran, having served his country proudly. John had a long career with the US Postal Service with him being the postmaster for the Silverdale, WA post office where he worked until his retirement.
John was a caring man, strong in mindset and stature, yet gentle in his heart. He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman, fishing and hunting being two of his favorite pastimes. John also loved the ground beneath his feet, his garden when in full bloom and fruitfulness was quite a sight. During their younger days, John and Joyce ensured that each of the children was instilled with a love of what God provided, from gardening to flowers, caring for their animals, Sunday Mass and their times together as a family camping in the outdoors. John was an avid golfer, and through his convictions and caring heart volunteered with family at the American Lake Veterans golf course. John can be seen riding the lawnmower on an American Lake Veterans video.
John is survived by his wife Joyce, their four daughters, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild on the way, and numerous close relatives In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you hug a loved one or call those near and far to express your love. John will be privately laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton. A Celebration of Life will be announced. Arrangements under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.
