Larry Robert Barnett

Larry was born on January 29, 1946, in Renton, WA, to Robert and Eileen Barnett. He grew up in Kent, WA, alongside his two brothers and two sisters.

Larry graduated from Kent-Meridian High School in 1964 and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Washington State University (WSU), graduating in December 1968. While attending WSU, he served as a U.S. Army ROTC cadet from January 1967 to February 1969. Later, he earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

In 1965, while attending WSU, Larry met and fell in love with Christine Kozloski. They were married on August 25, 1967, in Bellevue, WA, and were blessed with four sons: James (June 1968), Daniel (October 1969 to February 1970), Jeffrey (December 1970), and Gregory (July 1973).

Larry joined the U.S. Army on March 26, 1969, and served as a Lieutenant, with assignments in Washington, GA, and Germany, before being honorably discharged on March 25, 1971. He continued his military service in the Army Reserves until February 4, 1975. Larry then embarked on a 35-year career as an electrical engineer with the Department of Defense at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station, where he worked until his retirement in 2010.

Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed the outdoors and cherished time spent boating and fishing, cycling and camping with his sons, volunteering with the Boy Scouts, playing cards with friends, and gardening. In retirement, he enthusiastically pursued many interests and passions. Blessed with a lifelong green thumb, he cultivated beautiful Christmas cacti indoors and created a stunning dahlia garden in his backyard. Larry was also an avid birdwatcher and maintained no fewer than fifteen bird feeders, delighting in caring for both the birds (and squirrels!) that visited his yard. He also took up long distance walking in retirement, eventually taking walks in excess of 15 miles.

Above all else, Larry loved his family. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christine; his sister, Robyn Legge, and her husband, Kelly; his sons, James and his wife, Kim; Jeffrey and his wife, Julie; and Gregory; as well as his five grandchildren: Alanna, Carter, Danielle, Katie, and Nathaniel.

Larry will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his service to his country, his dedication to his profession, and the kindness, loyalty, and generosity he shared with all who knew him.

A Graveside Service and Inurnment will be held at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, 5505 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA 98312, USA, on August 29, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am for immediate family only.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, Chapel, 5505 Kitsap Way, Bremerton, WA 98312, USA, on August 29, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
