Linda, 82, passed peacefully in her sleep in the early morning on July 14th in Bremerton, WA. She was born on August 31, 1941 in Milwaukie, OR, to Eleanor Shinaman Carney and Wendell Carney. She came into the world at 4 lb 9.5 ounces and 18 inches. Family moved to Kelso, WA in 1947, living in the beautiful Columbia Heights area. She attended Kelso High School, class of 1959, and Lower Columbia College in Longview, WA. Linda married her highschool sweetheart Robert Hogg on April 30, 1962. While Rob was in the Army she spent time living in Virginia, Alabama and Colorado Springs, CO. During this time she learned how to cook, eventually becoming really good. Also, she learned she did not like the hot humid summers in the South. -- Linda worked after high school as a phone operator in Kelso/Longview and later in Seattle. Had a good career as customer service agent at Grange Insurance Company from 1977 until her retirement in 2012. She was well known for her ability to quickly identify problems in client files and the large amount of letters she was able to produce daily responding to insureds questions. -- Linda lived in Seattle most of her life until moving to Kitsap County to be closer to family after breaking her leg in 2014.
Linda was very independent and was always busy puttering around her apartment. She loved to cook and always made a nice home cooked meal each Sunday. There was no shortage of family visiting on Sundays to partake of the fruits of her labor! Her neighbors were always glad to receive a plate she brought over, especially the nuns who lived next door. In addition she loved to bake, her specialities were chocolate chip cookies, cakes and of course fudge. Even more than baking, she enjoyed giving them away and she had many fans who enjoyed her baked goods. -- Linda also loved thrift shopping for clothes and became very good at timing her trips to Goodwill to take advantage of the discounts on the already low prices. -- Linda enjoyed following her favorite teams, the Seattle Seahawks, Mariners and Husky football and basketball. Although her son was a Cougar she maintained a fierce loyalty to the Huskies.. She was a big fan of Dave Niehaus and was especially sad when he died on November 10, 2010.
Soon after moving to Kitsap County Linda lost her mobility and was dependent on family and caregivers. Whenever possible she enjoyed long drives with her son Matt and exploring the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas. She loved deer and they would often drive all over Kitsap to catch a glimpse. Also, she loved fish and chips. Her and Matt had fun testing all the options in the area and determining who had the best. -- Being chairbound her entertainment was mostly watching TV. She watched a lot of MSNBC, baseball and football. Linda enjoyed watching YouTube food shows with Shannon and Kristen. She and Matt watched her favorite series over and over, including Ann of Green Gables, All Creatures Great Small, Downton Abbey, Poldark and Call The Midwife. --
