Maria was born on June 11, 1925 in Vancouver, WA to Taniyo and Yahichi Yamanishi.
Raising four children took up a lot of Maria’s time and energy but she managed to take night classes at Olympic College. Maria’s ambition led her to a career at the Puget Sound Naval Hospital employed in Medical Records.
Maria enjoyed gardening, art, painting, cooking, baking, spending time with family and friends; and loved her family get togethers. She was a passionate believer in good health and could be seen walking daily in her neighborhood to keep fit. She was a member of Bremerton Central Lady Lions Club, joined husband Fred in Bremerton Central Lions Club activities for most of their lives, and was an active member of Summit Ave. Presbyterian Church.
When people asked her what she was most proud of in her life, her reply was always, ‘my children’ and family came first for Maria. Maria contributed a spirit of love and unqualified support to all her children’s lives.
Maria had a way of making everyone she met feel good and special. And her feelings were sincere.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Sr., and is survived by her four children, Fred Jr. of Bothell, WA; Lonnie of Hinsdale, IL; Lori of Seattle, WA.; and Linda of Sunnyvale, CA, Lonnie’s wife Martha, grandchildren Coco; Chloe; and Chase (children of Lonnie and Martha); her sister Rhea Fujimoto of Las Vegas, NV, and her brothers Herb Yamanishi of Lansing, MI. and Joe Yamanishi of Los Angeles, CA., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11 June at Summit Ave. Presbyterian Church, 403 South Summit Ave., Bremerton WA. 12 noon. Tel: 360.377.2740.
