age of 86. She had been ill for some time.
Martha loved knitting and sewing and cooking far more than she cared for working outside the
home. She did work as a legal secretary for a number of years, though. Her most interesting job
was for a Beverly Hills lawyer who provided legal services to the movie stars. Some of the big
name ones like Bing Crosby, she said, were not nearly as endearing off-screen as on. It was
eye opening.
She was born and grew up in Palo Alto, California, the daughter of Thomas and Naomi Button
Beckett. Her great-grandfather was originally from Ohio, but after the great earthquake that
leveled San Francisco in1906 he moved there with his family to help rebuild the city.
For many years, until her health failed, she loved traveling with her husband. Their most
adventurous trip was in the 80s when they roughed it for the length of Baja California in their
Volkswagen Camper, sleeping by the roadside wherever they happened to be.
Martha's health started to fail after a later trip where she slipped on a mossy rock at the beach
and injured her back. It never fully recovered.
Martha raised three children of her own and helped with three of her second husband, Sterling
Fisher. The childrens' names are Deborah Jane Levin, Samuel Joseph Levin, David Mathew
Levin, Gordon Callahan Fisher, Glen Thomas Fisher and Evan Fisher Murnighan. There are two
grandchildren, Rachael Elizabeth Murnighan Martin and Randy Michael Murnighan and one
great-grandchild, William Michael Martin.
Martha is loved by many and will be missed.
