Born February 3, 1931, in Seattle, Washington she was the daughter of the late William and Lavetta Gill of Indianola, Washington. She lived her entire life in Western Washington and the last 30 years in Seabeck.
In 1953, she married Lawrence (Larry) Caseria and together they raised three children. The family spent many years raising horses and a menagerie of farm animals on various farms in North Kitsap. Mom was very active in the Grange and 4-H and shuttled the family to many horseshows over the years. While the kids were actively showing horses, Mom spent every Mother’s Day at the Silver Spurs Mother’s Day horse show. Pat and Larry divorced in 1972 but remained friends throughout the years.
She then met Melvin Cross and they married in 1979. Mom enjoyed travelling with her husband Mel and they took many memorable trips and cruises together. She loved Hawaii and beaches and often visited her daughter when she lived there. Some of her various trips which she enjoyed talking about included Tahiti (where her son played in a baseball tournament), Mexico, Bermuda, Alaska and she spent many winter months in Arizona with her husband Mel. Throughout her life she took several trips across the country including many trips with Mel to attend Woodrow Wilson Association Reunions.
Mom’s work career spanned over 40 years, the majority of them being with the Federal Government. She also worked for Boeing in her early years. She was a very valued employee retiring from SWFPAC at Bangor where she was a Supply Technician for many years.
Mom fought a very rare and vicious disease with grace and courage. It may have taken her ability to move and to speak but it did not take away her ability to enjoy her family and her great grandsons could always light up her eyes. Nothing made her happier than to have her family around her and holidays were always especially happy for her when they were all together.
Mom enjoyed her yard and she was so happy working in the garden and planting beautiful flowers. As her disease progressed, she found great joy looking out of her sunroom at the various wildlife that would visit her daily and her beautiful flower baskets hanging outside the windows. Mom was a very talented cook and party organizer and planned many functions supporting her husband’s Navy career. One of Mom’s great joys was when she attended the Woodrow Wilson Associations Reunions and helped run the Ships Store sales desk. She really enjoyed working with the shipmates wives and forged some longtime friendships. We will all miss her love of family and her love of creating an environment filled with laughter, good food and family all of which was vitally important to Mom.
Survivors include her husband of almost 40 years Melvin Cross, three children Laurie Carson (partner Scott Nation ), Denice Caseria-Read (Steve), Scott Caseria (LeAnn); four loving grandsons, Aaron (Ashley), Dustin (Emily), Cody (KC) and Tyler; three very cherished great-grandsons, Kawika, Iroh, and Elias; her much loved brother William (Bill) Gill (partner ShinJa) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
At Moms request, there will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Rescue Families of Bremerton. The family would welcome and encourage any memories and comments you wish to share be posted to the following link www.miller-woodlawn.com
