Patricia Ann Housey Soderberg Sechrest, 86, left us at sunrise on Easter Sunday, April 9th, 2023, in her residence at Crista Shores in Silverdale, Washington. Her final moments were spent surrounded by loving family and friends and caring Crista Shores and Envision Hospice staff.
Patricia (Pat/Patty/Patsy/Patticakes) was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 11th, 1937, to Mitchell and Edith Housey and was the third of eight children.
Patricia attended nursing school after graduation from Saint Phillip Neri School. While working as a nurse, she met her future mother-in-law, Ruth Soderberg, who was a patient in the hospital. Ruth mentioned that her son James would be home on shore leave soon from the US Navy. A match was made and Patricia married James Leonard Soderberg on October 10, 1959 at Saint Ambrose Church in Detroit.
Together they served in the US Navy for a total of 26 years. Along the way Patricia gave life to five children and the family moved between Great Lakes, IL, Buena Park, CA and Bremerton, WA, where she lived in the same house for the last 50 years. When James suddenly died on October 27th, 1984, Patricia went back to work as a nurse and supported her daughter Janet through high school and college.
In 1989 Patricia met Robert Daryl Sechrest, a US Navy retiree with five children of his own. Patty was apparently quite fond of sailors and they were married on February 2nd, 1990. They were both empty nesters and enjoyed exploring North America in their travel trailer and volunteering as campground hosts. Robert passed away on February 21st, 2018.
Patricia is survived by her children Jim (Robin), John, Jeffrey, Joe and Janet; stepchildren Charlotte (Ron), Mike (Debbie), Angie, Rachel (Jeff), and Shalene; grandchildren Robert, Roni, Jeni, Nicole, Jessica, Johnnie, Caroline, Van, Elsa, Samantha, Amanda, Stephen, and Riley; step-grandchildren, Valerie, Nick, Christopher, Sashka, and Annaliese; her siblings Mitchell, Gary and David; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Patricia was preceded in death by her two husbands James and Robert; siblings Margaret, Donald, Diane, and Glenn; and step-grandchildren Justin, Jeremy, and Ricky.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Duff, the amazing team at Crista Shores, and her cherished family, friends and neighbors for their loving care and relationship.
Services will be held at Holy Trinity Parish, where she was a parishioner for 50 years, 4215 Pine Rd. NE, Bremerton, WA 98310 on Friday, May 12th, 2023 at 11:00 am and live stream on the Holy Trinity Parish website (https://www.holyt.org/social-media), followed by a reception.
Patricia will rejoin her husband James this summer, when her ashes are buried at sea at the site of his US Navy burial off the coast of Port Orford, Oregon.
The family wishes memorial contributions to be made in Patricia's honor to Susan G. Komen (http://www.info-komen.org/goto/Patricia_Sechrest or by phone 1-877-GO-KOMEN) to help fight breast cancer.
Patricia was a strong, independent, and social woman who enjoyed spending time with family and friends over a meal, playing games, traveling, attending plays, and taking in sporting events. She shined brightly and had the ability to light up a room with her smile and sunny disposition. She was a friend to everybody and will be missed by all.
