Bobby, to those who knew him, was born in Bremerton to Bob and Norma Atwood and graduated Central Kitsap High School in 1991. During high school he played Varsity football and spent his free time creating memories with friends and restoring his Mustang. He met his wife Molly (Richards) during high school, and they married in 1996.
At 16, Bobby started his first job at the Silverdale Safeway, where he went from bagging groceries to managing the meat department. He worked in Safeway stores from Bremerton to Bainbridge Island for twenty years, and the Poulsbo and Kitsap Lake Red Apple Markets. Bobby and his wife opened two childcare centers and he was eventually able to step away from the grocery business. Bobby was loved by his co-workers for his hard work, dry sarcasm, endless humor, and talent for changing the lyrics of any song. At the childcare centers, the children knew him as “Mr. Bobby” with an occasional mistaken “Mr. Barbie” which was enjoyed by anyone who heard it. Mr. Bobby was the man who fixed everything and could draw anything.
Bobby had a strong sense of family, friendship and believed in working hard and playing hard. If you were a friend of Bobby’s, you were family. He was the guy who made anyone’s dog his best friend. He loved to BBQ, boat, fish, crab, snowmobile, float a river, dirt bike, and wheel in the dunes. He was talented and resourceful and often the mechanic for any kind of vehicle or snowmobile. Bobby was about to realize his dream of designing and building a cabin for his family to enjoy in Plain, Washington.
Bobby left an impression on everyone who met him. His personality was his own and he was always true to himself. Even when he was extremely ill, his doctor referred to Bobby as “a welcome character.” Bobby lived life to the fullest and will leave a huge hole in the many lives he touched.
Bobby is survived by his wife Molly and their two sons, Ian Atwood of Bremerton (23) and Ryan Atwood of Poulsbo (20); his mother and her husband, Norma and Jim Manske of Bremerton; his younger sister, Jennifer Atwood (nephew Liam Snyder, 12) of Seattle; and stepbrother Nick Manske of Colorado. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Stella. Bobby was preceded in death by his father Robert, Sr., and stepbrother James Manske.
A memorial service for Bobby will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 PM.
